Don't want to take the credit for everything;

From the shamrock on the jerrycan cover of the L/R on photo 11 it's clear that the wagon is one of 1 Royal Irish's.

Also, I think the sharpshooter on photo 5 is a Guardsman, from memory and other photo's in the album here.

Does anyone know why the LAWs have such big covers on the ends? The 66s didn't have them.

Well I never got to see the LAW during my service, but we had the elephants feet covers on the Milans,to protect the membrane at the front, and the rocket motors at the back,so I would haphazard a guess as to say the LAW 80's maybe similar?
Also the 66 had flip up covers on them!

Elephants' feet. I think they're that big so that the sight housing is protected when the weapon is laid on the ground.

The sight housing is on the top left hand side of the weapon (it collapses inside itself when not in use).

The elephants feet act as end caps (as per MILAN) and as far as I know protect the unit from vibration in transport (they're black painted expanded polystyrene).

I'll go with the membrane thing, and also to prevent Foreign objects from entering the inside of the tube!

Not sure about exact numbers - but the unit breakdown is given here http://www.operations.mod.uk/telic/forces.htm - Still in the 10,000+ range although reduced since the hostilities finshed.

If they are Royal Marine Commandos, where are the Diemaco C7s?

If they are Royal Marine Commandos, where are the Diemaco C7s?

Huh?!? Why would they be carrying C7s exactly?

Last time I visited Some kinda Marine base which I don't want to reveal
base did have a lot of C7s

however, the major purpose of it was to able to use
M203,
(They do use C7s for general purpose as well)

However, with SA80A2 being used w/ AGSA80,
There's less chance of seeing it now.

And yes, we all hate MOD for SA80

That would be Plymouth or Poole, although alot is stretching it at either and unless you were in the armouries...

I suspect you've seen a few phots of the BRF and added 2 and 2 to get 15.

The photo of the LR with the Oil fire in the background was taken by a friend in the Royal Irish Regiment. It is in fact not of the Royal Marine Commandos.

So Royal Marine Commandos are an equivalent of US Marine Recon?

Ratamacue

Not really. The RMC is probably more like an extremely elite infantry force similar to the Rangers, but my British counterparts would probably be able to make a better comparison than myself.

US - British

CT: Delta - SAS
Airborne Light Infantry: Rangers - Paras
Maritime SOF: SEALs, Force Recon - SBS

Maybe my Brit friends can clarify better, but RMCs are better trained than regular infantry, but not as proficient as the SAS or Delta and they can be better compared to the USMC Raiders of WWII in the sense of their mission and purpose. They can be somewhat compared to modern US Rangers with some skills but if I am not mistaken they are not 100% airborne qualified and do not typically jump from planes, after all, they are marines. Some will probably say that SBS are more like SEAL Team Six rather than blue water SEALs but I do not know that much about the unit particularly whether or not they specialize in CT work.

I would actually say the Special Boat Service is more like the Marine Recon. Royal Marines are just like the US Marines.

so then who the **** is comparable to the us navy SEALs if not the SBS?

It is very difficult to say that one unit is alike to another. US SF organisation is different to ours...They have a lot more units than we do. We only have one unit for each service (makes things Simple). The US has many units within each service. Marine Recon/Navy SEALs.....Green Berets/Army Delta etc.. In the question itself....He asked is the Royal Marines like the Marine Recon....which it is not....I only gave the SBS as a similar comparison for the US Marine Recon.
