Hi,
here're two pics of an incident in Munich, where a 66-year old guy shot at 5 people, wounding 3 of them seriously.
Unfortunately, the police shot a 54-year old man in the arm, who managed to take the rifle away from the crazy old man. He came out of the building and didn't put the gund down, when the cops told him to do so (most probably he didn't understand or was shocked).

BTW There are two SEKs in Bavaria.
SEK-Southbavaria - Stationed in Nürnberg
SEK-Nordbavaria - Stationed in Munich
Both together had from 1973 to 1998 over 4600 deployments and 68 takings of hostages. (sorry, can't remember the right word in english)

The 54 year old can at least take comfort that he was facing German police. I dont think the UK police would have shot to wound as most times it ends in a fatality. To be fair, they are now looking at non leathal weaponry.

Well, they just shot him in the arm.
He was not attacking the police, or aiming the police, just holding the gun. Nonethless the SEK acted professionel. (The man could be dead, if they were trigger happy)

Thats pretty interesting that German police will shot to wound sometimes since I've never heard of police in any other country doing that.

Munich - A 54-year-old Bosnian immigrant to Germany who disarmed a pensioner on a rampage in a German apartment block was recovering in hospital on Tuesday after being accidentally shot by jittery police.
Meanwhile, the 66-year-old resident who had opened fire on neighbours with a rifle died in hospital.
He had sustained a bullet wound to the head during the struggle, apparently when the gun unintentionally went off. In addition, he appeared to have suffered a stroke while being transported to hospital by ambulance.
The Czech-born pensioner had wounded three people when he discharged 25 shots, evidently trying to wipe out the whole Bosnian family after years of sniping about noise, clean-up duties and alleged bad manners.
The Bosnian's 24-year-old son was recovering from two bullet wounds in the neck, police said.
The assailant, who had lived in Germany since just after WW 2, had a collection of letters complaining about his allegedly noisy and untidy neighbours, plus a diary of the times during which he claimed they had left the building door unlocked, police said.
The reclusive man apparently went berserk when another neighbour refused "to clean up the Bosnians' dirt".
Meanwhile, a preliminary inquiry was launched against the police officer who shot the Bosnian father in the arm.
Investigators said first accounts suggested police erroneously believed he was the offender when they saw him run out of the building with the gun. The opened fire when he did not respond after they called "drop that gun", they said. - Sapa-dpa

Pensioner Dies after Shooting Spree
"PA"
A German pensioner who went on a shooting spree at his Munich apartment block that left four people injured died today after suffering a stroke.
The 66-year-old, identified only as Walter S, fired around 30 shots with a small-calibre rifle during the incident on Monday in what police said was an outburst of anger over noisy foreign neighbours.
He injured two neighbours by firing through apartment doors and then shot a 24-year-old Bosnian in the throat before the man’s father grabbed the weapon – fleeing with it into the street outside, where he was shot in the arm by a police officer.
Walter S. then fled into his apartment, where he was arrested by police. Shortly afterward, he suffered a stroke and went into a coma.
Police said a post-mortem should determine whether the stroke was a result of head wounds he sustained in the scuffle with his neighbours.

I was wondering about those as well. Perhaps some built-in noise cancelling headphones are the reason for the large side bulges.

Err, there is no reason to kill that person, since he didn't act agressive/and was a civilist (what the police didn't know). (and if they would have kill him, there would be a dead civilist now.)

The helmets have built-in Microphones/Headphones. ( You can see those helmets in the GSG-9 Video -> http://www.militaryphotos.net/forums/viewtopic.php?t=20790 )
The Face-shield has 9mm protection.

German police generally shoot to wound: weapon arm of an attacker, legs of someone escaping, etc.
Shooting to kill ("Finaler Rettungsschuß") is allowed only in very special circumstances, as a last means to protect victims, bystanders or the officers themselves.
And in that case a thorough investigation will follow to determine whether the kill was really necessary and according to the rules.

Every fired shot will follow a investigation. Hit or not, even if it was a warning shot, there would be a investigation.
It seems to work because we have some of the lowest casuality rates in SWAT missions in the whole world.
