I've participated in a few tin mans, but never a full length trike, but I'll give you my .02.
Focus on the leg that seems to be your weakest. For instance, everyone seems to have one leg in which they are the strongest. I have also tried to incoporate my triathlon training into my daily workout so that I do not have to switch up my routine when I'm nearing a race.

I'll just give a brief overview of what my training prior to a race looks like. [First let me just say that I got into the nasty habit of lifting weights while I was in college and I can't break it, but if your going to do weight training only a do a minimal bit as any additional weight your carrying in a race will be your end.] Anyhow, I alternate between running and biking everyday, I'll usually run for 5 miles and I ride 10-15 on the bike. I try to get to a pool two or three times a week for laps, but that depends on my schedule. Usually about five weeks before a race, I'll start doubling the length required in the competition. So if the course length is a 1/4 mile swim, 10 mile bike, and 5 mile run, I'll swim half a mile, bike 20 miles, and run 10 miles, once a week for four weeks. The week before they race, I'll drop back into my regular schedule, just to let my body rest before the race. Then I compete.

Now this is how I do it, but coming from a guy whose highest place is 7th in his own division, you might want to listen to somebody with a little bit more success. Good luck.
