Hi,

A bit of a specialised question, but please bear with me:

Have any national upgrades to M113 altered the ramp locking system? The M113AS4 (Aussie upgrade) retains the 'old' method incorporating levers and rods from the driver's position.

Nothing sinister about this, I'm working on an engineering project and ideas from around the world are better than ideas from one head!

Thanks in advance for any info.

I believe they are still the same as older models. The Canadian TLAV has the same ramp locking system as the older M113A2. Handle rear of the right shoulder of the driver, push button in with thumb and lower the handle. To raise you have to have engine in neutral and rev the motor up as you raise the ramp then lock the handle in the up position. Two locking levers in the rear lock the ramp in place. All operated by a cable. FYI, If the cable snaps, 3 guys can't lift the ramp by hand as the driver locks it in place. Just don't lower the ramp again as it has no cable to stop it.

Like TOWguy said, the mechanism is the same on our newer TLAV's (M113A3?) as the old M113A2. The only different mechanism I've seen is on the ADATS, it has a ratchet lock at the top corners of the ramp instead of the handle by the driver. I'd have the check, but I remember the TCP's (Queen Mary) having the same mechanism.

Our A4 series still has the next to the driver, the lock as well as the raise/lower thingy.

If you need any pictures, I can see if the TCP's at work have the same setup and I'll take some pictures for you.
