Hey Guys,

iīm planning to apply a duracoat finish to the grip of my walther pps. At first i wanted a Cerakote finish, but there is only one company in Germany who offers it and they donīt seem to be very professional (no email answer for over a month - no answer on phone calls). So i did a bit of research and came across duracoat.

My color of choice is OD green, and here start the questions - i read that you need to add "flattener" because if you donīt the color turns out glossy. Is there anyone who has experience with duracoat and the "flattener"? How do the colors turn out in general (lighter/darker than on the homepage (http://www.duracoat-firearm-finishes.com/)...)

The PPS is disassembled at the moment and waits for its new coating so any help would be appreciated.

thanks,

Cougar79

Howdy Cougar, i have experience with using ceramic coating on my knives. And i know a knife maker who uses Duracoat, seems to work a little better than the ceramic. Thinking about switching myself. If i had a choice i would use a powder coat, much much better than ceramic or Dura, but i havent found a home use kit of it yet.

Not too sure about using coating on polymer, as the instructions for the ceramic cote says: warning do not use on anything other than metal.

Good luck and let us know how it goes.

Hi Cougar79, I have Duracoated several Firearms , the base coat will come out glossy sometimes , the colors come out good , you need to buy a bottle of the Flat finish , and apply it last , this will take all the shiny away .

I thinking about getting my Buckmark slide Duracoated in a Dark Earth color. Is Duracoat as good as the people who do it claim to be?

When Applied properly it is a very tough coating , I did a .45 and in 2 weeks we put a couple hundred rounds through it , the only chipping found was where the hammer hit the firing pin .

Sadly its not mine , I did it for a friend who registered it after the wonderful ban forced on us for our own safety, all my "good" guns are now residing in another state ....
All the Rifles I painted were not mine .

As a Test I Duracoated a Repop M1918 Trench Knife.

Used a Badger single action airbrush and a Testors blue compressor

Blade- Parkerized, no problems

Handle- Flat Oxide Black

The handle came out SemiGloss and the Idiots on My Team decided 3 hours after to punch the walls with it and the coating chipped at point of contact. Once the specified cure time was done no problems since.
