View Full Version : I Enlisted Today

I finally went and enlisted with the Army today. I got an 11x contract for 1 1/2 years with a 5k sign on bonus. I chose to start with only a 1.5 year tour to kinda get my feet wet with the Army and see how I like it. My recruiter told me more then likely I won't deploy because of how short my tour is, but I doubt that is true.

That's the WAY to do it!!! For me as an European it's great to see that we have here in militaryphotos.net even some American patriots who really DO something instead of just fleeing away from the responsibility!!!
Serve with honor!

First: Thanks for your service and good luck. Always rememebr; basic, basic infantry, airborne school, it's all just a game, learn the rules and how to play the game early and you will have a blast
Second: We call recruiters "lying machines" in the SF. They didn't get that moniker by accident.
Third: Caraway, why don't you go out and do something "Patriotic", like getting off my site!
Congrats and Good Luck to you

I ship out on September 1st. Are you infantry dghost? Everyone thinks I'm crazy for joining infantry, and I get a lot of negativity from people, but thats the best way I figure I can help with the war on terrorism. I have a good friend in Iraq whom I talk to often who tells me that the media portray of Iraq is so far from the truth is sick. Either way if I happen to hate it I only have an active commitment of 1.5 years, but I'll will more then likely re up.

yup, i'm an 11B myself. I got some people who thought I was crazy for joining the Infantry - some who were just concerned about my well being. personally, I think its crazy to be deployed to a hostile area where you get shot at, mortared, and have people actively trying to blow you up without being able to go take care of the problem. but... thats just me. evidentally I don't see eye to eye with a lot of the Army. gotta love the REMF's.
just pay attention to detail, master what they teach you, and stay out of trouble. if you do those things you will do excellent in IBT, and excellent in the Infantry. you never know when you have to do something that you were only taught in basic.

11x is the infantry enlistment option which either places you in 11C (mortar crew) or 11B (rifleman). i think they did away with 11M, if I'm not mistaken. Once again all, thanks! I really applicate your support.

partially correct.
Light blue is the color of the Infantry. the use of light blue in uniforms can be traced back to the first uniform authorized by the Continental Congress. In the civil war Infantryman of both sides wore blue on their uniforms to help set themselves apart from others. In 1904 light blue became the official color of the Infantry (now refered to as Infantry Blue). when they created the Expert Infantryman Badge and Combat Infantryman Badge in 1943 it was natural that they would both feature two symbols of the infantry - an infantry rifle on a light blue bar. In the early 50's, when they authorized infantrymen to wear a cord and disks with their uniforms, they again turned to light blue for its historic and symbolic meaning.
1Cie GevGn - congrats!

Speaking for some of us who say "we're Game" for service but for whatever reason are not actually in yet, yah we're first to say "yah as soon as I finish with ####### I'm going to join" but at the end of the day, you're putting your money where your mouth is and all we can do is sit here on our comfortable chairs and wish you good luck. I think Sept. 1st will honestly be the first day of the rest of your life. Hopefuly we'll see you in there.
"We" being me and a bunch of my other Dependent friends that don:t even know about this site and are en route to the DOD.
