The famous Suomi submachine gun or machine carbine was designed to be an "everlasting" piece of equipment. Broken or worn-out parts like extractors, barrels, breech-bolts, recoil springs and wooden stocks were easy to replace. Receiver and jacket were truly durable parts, and - with the exception of some springs and pins - the small pieces of trigger mechanism did not easily wear out. The very first prototype of the SUOMI gun was made by a young Finnish Army armorer, AIMO JOHANNES LAHTI (1896-1970) in 1920 or 1921. The caliber was .32 A.C.P. or 7.65 mm Browning. The gun was 30 centimeters (11.8 inches) long. This "machine pistol" was a very reliable gun but the .32 Auto cartridge was too weak for "serious military use" and the cyclic rate of fire was presumably too high.

Ahhh... nice reading, something non-Russian for a change ;)

The author of that article, P.T. Kekkonen, was probably one of the most knowledgeable gun-historians in Finland. Truly a walking gun-encyclopedia. Sadly thought, he passed away not so long ago :(

Anyways, the English part of his website (http://guns.connect.fi/gow/gunwriters.html) is very worthwhile to explore.

Agreed. I think he posted informative things to this. But there is only his view about politics. Well being anti-american on a site with American mods and americans is not going so good. Come on Budanski was on a anti European hate mission some time ago. Please , I do not want to start a flamewar this is just my opinion.

But wtf is this on the that site?
http://guns.connect.fi/gow/war.html well I just hope that site will concentrate on guns and not on politics. There wasn't any before. Maybe after the original site mantainer died the new one has another policy? I dont like that site having something that looks just like some arabic site.
