Harold Strub flew an Air Force rescue plane that picked up B-24 Pilot Loren Corliss and seven other men from a Philippine Island on December 22, 1944. Corliss and his men had been hiding in the jungle for 45 days before Strub flew in and picked them up. Corliss never had a chance to thank Strub on that day, and learned last week, after 65 years, that the both of them have been living in Wichita for decades. The two finally met on Thursday.

Great article Tack. I love reading articles such as these. To me, it makes you always want to treat people right because you never know down the line when you may see them again.

Wichita represent Kansas.. What what.

You're quite welcome, sir.

A little excerpt:

East Wichita, 2010

After Corliss rang the bell, the slim form of an elderly man appeared: pale, thin, balding, and frail, with a voice made faint by 92 years.

"Hello,'' the thin man said. The voice, barely audible, conveyed a warm and alert courtesy.

"Are you Harold?" Corliss asked.

"I am," said Harold Strub. "Please come in."

"Well," Corliss said, grasping the pilot's hand. "It is a small world after all, isn't it?"

I'll pretend you didn't say that. What do you big city folks know anyway? :)
