Magpul filed a patent for their quad stacked AR magazine. It reminds me a lot of the Izmash's 60 round mag.

Since the USMC just adopted the HK 416/IAR as their platform, maybe Magpul's trying to get a new contract with these mags for those guns.

The link also has the original patent files with schematics in there.

Just FYI, attached is a patent picture of Suomi SMG 9mm magazine from the year 1939. The magazine was produced by LINDE KVARNMASKINER AB.

If its as good as their normal PMAGS, then I will def buy in bulk say 10 mags. Which reminds me, need to ask Mark Fingar on arfcom to see what he thinks or knows about this.

Stickman would be the guy to ask, methinks. I'll ask one of my sources, too.

Except Beta-C jammed a lot under adverse conditions. They worked well in a clean, one way range.

It seems Beta-C version for AR's got these problems because of relatively narrow magwell and too much of a spring tension. G36 variant functioned flawlessly from what I know. Im rather sceptical about those 60 rounders anyways, seen a russian one and it was bulky as hell, influenced the gun balance badly, not to mention it wasn't a thing you'd want to drop and possibly loose.

Izmasz 60 round mag is unfortunatly repeating the jamming problems from suomi from what i heared.

There was a good article, an interview actually, with L. James Sullivan, who designed the original Beta-C Mag, in the Small Arms Review magazine, where he explains why the Beta-C Mag does not function well in the AR15 type of weapons. IIRC, it was designed to be used in slower cycling weapons with heavier bolt/bolt carrier assemblies. Beta-C is quite reliable if it's used in a weapon that can support it, like the Ultimax, as for the quad stacked mags, I hope Magpul get's it right, even tho the IAR concept is not the best choice in the first place, but I do understand they see a niche market there.

The Italian SMG Spectre had a similar magazine. The SMG never caught, mostly because of its poorly designed magazine.

Spectre, with the double action trigger?

Spectre has a quad stack 50 round magazine in 9mm. The Spectre is hammer-fired and the trigger group is double action with a decocker. It was never adopted for any large scale military use and to my knowledge is not used by any large police forces either. Currently out of production since 2001.Rumor states that the super high cap mags had many failures to feed. Not surprising as most box mags above 35-40 rounds are next to useless.

Cool. Assuming it works, this would make a nice "in the gun" mag. Not something I'd want to carry a lot of as a rifleman, but nice to have for the initial contact.
