I know this is a very odd request, but does anone here know where I can find an example of a test simple remote firing stand that I could make from lumber and/or other odds and ends? I am testing a prototype gas piston system for a standard 5.56 mm M4 rifle. If you don't have plans, a good photo would suffice. Thanks in advance.

Get a cleaning stand and some tiedown straps..........cheap and it works.....unless you are trying to go with something for accuracy.

Not a bad idea! I won't be doing any rapid firing so it should work.

I was just looking at the Magpul video of the original Masada test and it pretty much looks like they used a heavy rest with the rifle strapped to it with a lanyard to the trigger.

Did you create the piston yourself? Post the reviews for a nice follow up. Hope your test goes well.
Well as a matter of fact I did. Unfortunately these things move slowly and it won't be for a couple of months that I can reveal much (maybe longer). What I can say is that I will be offering a complete upgrade kit for the AR that will have multiple components that all work together to optimize performance and reliability. I know you can buy something like it already done but, most guys that already own an AR can't see spending 2 grand on another rifle. I think all of the aftermarket kits leave a little to be desired (yes I know there's some good ones too). So I hope what I'm doing will help close the gap between uber expensive and novel ideas. Yes I will keep you all informed.

Just make sure that you use some heavy straps to clamp the cleaning stand to the bench, and then some heavy straps on the rifle to the cleaning stand....double insurance so you don't get to much movement....
Here is sample stand that you can use. http://www.midwayusa.com/viewProduct/?productNumber=607786

Barrel vise bolted down to a heavy table/bench. Make sure top plate on vise is tight (i.e. use a cheater bar). (I have this barrel vise for rebarreling my bolt guns, VERY sturdy)
