Hi all.
I have a query about two Romanian weapons, the PA md.86 assault rifle and the PSL sniper rifle.
Does anyone know if they currently use night vision sights on either of them? Or are they not used at all? Also, does anyone know if any of the Romanian special forces teams (such as the 21st Mountain Battalion & the Brigada Anti-Tero - actually, are these classed as SF units. or is that wrong?) use night vision goggles as standard during night missions, or is this a more recent development? I read an article dated June 2010 where Romanian soldiers have been training with night vision goggles, with the US marines.
Thanks guys!

As far as I am aware the 21st Mountain Battalion is just that, regular mountain troops where do you get a source for a SF tag?

I've never seen them using night vision, the only SF team i know of are the 1st special operations battalion and they are armed with HK weapons, the Mountain Battalion like said above is just that mountain troops.
There is night vision sights used, mostly i think are made by local industry (IOR factory) or foreign ones maybe for BAT (who use more specialized sniper rifles probably). I dont think is very spread anyway. And there is too night vision googles in use by this troops.
About mountain hunters, they are not special forces but are elite units of the regular army (like paratroopers and marines too). They are saw somehow as the marines in US, not SF but elite troops, who are specialized in actions in mountains/forested areas and are able to do sometimes some of the SF missions (deep inflitrations in mountain areas, surprise attacks, ambushes etc.).

Thanks for your help guys. I thought the 21st Mountain Battalion may have been an SF force as I first became aware of them via this website www.romanianspecialforces.com and the VMs (Vanatori De Munte) were listed on that site, hence the confusion. I have realised for a while though that they are basically elite troops, within the Land Forces.
I'm learning the differences between SF and other types of units though, so I'm doing my homework on it. It's fascinating learning about it all.
And to those that are awaiting my story on them, I'm not far off finishing it now, so I'd love to know what you think of it, and tell me if I'm going wrong anywhere.
Thanks again!

Oh, one other thing...
Are silencers ever fitted to PSL rifles for silent takedowns?
