I noticed in this newspaper article that these boys had some different kit...
I hoped someone could shed some light on what kind of DPM theyre wearing and how come the Sgt Major has a Sig Sauer??
The other Guards in the photos further down have M4 rifles instead of SA80s......?

That's the new Brit version of MultiCam, the Multi-Terrain Pattern (MTP).

The Sig P226/L105 is standard with the British Army and the M4 is the Colt Canada C8 SFW/L119.

This is about MTP (Multi Terrain Pattern):Wikipedia: MTP/Multi-Terrain Pattern (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Multi-Terrain_Pattern)

As for the M4, it is possible that he is part of a Close Protection Detail team, which often have other weapons to the regular issue SA80 A2

The pic of the guy with the 119 isn't as stated Scots Guards. More likely SFSG as its got the long barrel and UGL on it. CP guys from the RMP use the shorter version and have more hi-speed gear and tend to be slightly more posery!!

with due respect, looking at the state of that guys kit in the photo, there is no way he is SFSG!!! always good to have your helmet on a slant and a cheap copy of the desert issue assault vest (older pattern)........... ;)

Mate. No one else uses the 119 in that configuration apart from Blades and Shakies. If you can provide me proof that he's deffo 1 SG then I stand corrected. But in my humble opinion he's SFSG. There are no badges on his shirt or helmet to show he's household div which he sure as sh1t would have as the woodentops lurve that stuff.

The pic of the bloke with the Diemaco appeared in the "Todays's Pix' thread back in September 2007 (http://www.militaryphotos.net/forums/showthread.php?120702-Today-s-Pix-Monday-Sept-24th-2007&p=2780421&viewfull=1#post2780421):

Sergeant Chris Amos, Close Protection to the Task Force Commander, keeps a watchful eye as the Warrior makes a routine stop.
The operation, codenamed Palk Wahel or ‘Sledgehammer Hit’ has also seen the first major deployment of Warrior Armoured Fighting Vehicles crewed by The Right Flank, 1st Battalion the Scots Guards in decisive operations in Helmand Province. Both elements joined other British Forces from the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) and their Afghan National Security Force counterparts. Their actions will drive the Taliban from key areas in the Upper Gereshk Valley. So I'd say he's RMP. The vest looks like the old pattern CP vest, before they got issued gucci kit.

@ Sarge543:

i'm not saying hes a woodentop but i will say this mate: helmets wrong type for sfsg, waitscoat mans GP very old and wrong type, ever, for sfsg. sfsg arent the only ones using that weapon.

soz mate, i still disagree with you

as was said above, probably typical journos just picking a stock photo.

Fair calls all round there, however, Mk 6 Para lid not used by anyone in theatre anymore. MICH 2000 only used on certain ops. Waistcoat is a fair one but considering the mish mash of gear floating in and out of work at th emoment they're using anything that does the job. L119 in use by SFSG, Blades and Shakies and the Pathfinders. Short barrel SFW normally used by RMP CP teams.

And I'm pretty sure I know the guy! ;) However if i'm totally wrong I'll put my hands up to it!

I agree with DZ, If he was SFSG, I would think he would have a slightly more allier mind to wearing the POS issued chest rig and having dog ears flapping in the wind. :)

Note; do not take this post TOO seriously!

My bold - the Mk 6 and Para lids are two different helmets. If you were serving, you would know that.

Waistcoat is a fair one but considering the mish mash of gear floating in and out of work at th emoment they're using anything that does the job. As stated above, RMP CP teams were issued brown ops vests, designed to take radio/pistol etc. Also, if you had any knowledge/worked in/with SFSG, you would know they get decent kit.

L119 in use by SFSG, Blades and Shakies and the Pathfinders. Short barrel SFW normally used by RMP CP teams. It's a swap out upper. Short barrel is no use out in the open, as this bloke clearly is.

CP guys from the RMP use the shorter version and have more hi-speed gear and tend to be slightly more posery!!So...holding out his weapon as if to say "look at my weapon, it's different, therefore how good am I?" whilst doing his best '1,000 yd stare' toward the camera isn't 'posery'?

Not to mention again the shyte helmet admin, strap under his chin, tilting off to one side...no allyness attempted.

hmmmm....I call FAIL. :(

Also, to the additional poster: MTP is fairly common knowledge, as is the use of Sig 226 and other varients, along with the L119A1. I suggest looking at some more threads, and less red top newspapers! ;)
