I was preparing some tours in the Golan heights, and stumbled upon a few destroyed pieces of equipment put in tel es saki for the "decoration".
I was wondering if you could help me around with some stuff that I haven't ever seen before:

A D30 howitzer with French instructions

There are several other countries that speak, or spoke, French and may have bought Russian weapons--most likely that D30 came from an African country. I don't have a copy of Jane's handy, but I'm sure you could cross-reference that.

Syria being a former French Mandate seems like a smart move for the Soviets to put instructions in French rather than Russian.

Very true, After all the Golan heights, Syria and Lebanon were part of the French Mandate to the Levant.
Still, those plates on an Eastern block piece are rather an oddity.

I'll try to figure it out a bit better.
