Hey I was just wondering if an AR pistol type weapon has ever been used by the drivers of vehicles, like straped to the dash of a Humvee. I know they had a cut down M16A2 that they used in APCs, also would this be tactically advantageous?

AR pistols are sort of a odd ball. Not really a pistol and no longer a rifle. They can be used effectively with special training, but that would leave the average soldier out. SBRs are completely different. Any tactical advantage, IMHO, probably would be some special need that would be unique to a specific situation.

Thanks Minion, I was trying to figure out how it was to be used. I traded my upper off for a 6.8 SPC varminter. Interesting piece but a odd duck for me.

As a silenced SBR and a drum mag, I think they would be the cats meow for room clearing/urban combat.
Minion, the M3 as in grease gun? I was T/Oed on that. Would never want to hump it. It was supplied to Ontos crewman.

Still in the inventory as the Brad still has the Ramp Ports. Imagine it with an Piccatinny upper and a Beta Mag, short rail handguard

Yes, only in US because of the US legislation.

The M231? Was for the M2 and M3 Bradley's for the ball mounts, before the added armor made the use null and void. Those M231's have no sights, a very high cyclic rate, and virtually no real good heat dispersion for the operator. And the M231 was designed from the A1 series. I think he means as to use it as an AOW Hollis, nice idea, but not practical unless you got the BRD bad and have lots of parts around.
The M231 may be designed from the A1 series, but it is extremely different. It has a very different internal operation. fIt fires from the open bolt, and can manage a crazy 1,225rpm.
They are still on the books, but are not used anymore. In fact we we sign them over to Rear-detachment before deployments now. Ours haven't been fired since probably 2004-5.

Sorry for the delay in responding, I've been traviling. I was just wondering if any soilders had put a AR pistol on the dash of a humvee (or an AK pistol) I heard in a YouTube vid I was watching (it's a gunwebsites video the one where they are shooting though car windows can't post a link cuz I'm useing my phone) the guy offhandedly remarked about hearing about troops likeing these types of weapons in vehicles.

Extremely different is right, for those already familar with the AR/M16:

That tube (4) that goes in the back of the bolt carrier is called a Hammer, Firing, Small. It's what keeps the firing pin in its most forward position at all times so it hits the primer as soon as the carrier assembly locks the bolt!
Lower receiver parts:

Very different indeed, that funky anvil shaped thing (3) is the sear that holds the bolt carrier back when the trigger isn't being pulled.
Here's the Buffer Assy.:
128521
Part (5) is called a Buffer, Recoil, Mechanism, it's really just a fat rubber washer like you'd find at a hardware store.
Dig those THREE nested recoil springs! Hence 1,200 rpm.
