according to world.guns.ru the AN-94 is in use with russian SF, but probably wont see widespread use because the mechanism is quite complicated.

wow dude if all that info is correct great post woot
I would have a very hard time picking out which weapon is being used and which isn't as some have been adopted by the Russian army, while others have been adopted by the interior ministry, or the FSB only.
What I do know is that I have seen photos of the AK-74M with the black plastic furnature in Afghanistan in the late 80s and I presume the RPK-74 with similar resin stocks is just as old. I have seen pictures of the VSS and AS 9mm weapons also from a similar period so these weapons are not exactly new.
I have seen pictures of the VDV in the early 90s where every soldier is armed with a black plastic stock AK. But they knew they were to be photographed so they all had AKs rather than their normal heavy equipment like RPKs, PKMs, SVDs, RPG-29s etc etc.
I would also like to point out that the change from the NSVT or NSV-12.7 12.7mm HMG to the Kord had more to do with the fact that the NSVs were made in the Ukraine than any problems with performance or age. The NSV is light, and relatively easy to use... with no headspacing or timing required when you change barrels. The Kord has been designed to be more accurate and will be the Russian 12.7mm HMG of choice in the future. (ie when they buy to replace existing weapons or to fit to new tanks it will be Kord and not NSV that will be fitted).

The NSV is light
Try humping it around the woods on foot, and it becomes not-so-light ;)
(Some Jaeger formations carry NSV as a direct-fire support weapon)
:-)
Yes, the English language is fun isn't it... it is one of those strange uses of the term light that is special... much like the term friendly fire, or light howitzer.
It is certainly a bit lighter than a DSHkM...
