That's pretty cool, but I wonder how you get it down?

Interesting question; maybe it's meant to be disposable?
You're probably right. It just occurred to me that it may just be a back-up option.

Hook that up to an unmanned ground vehicle and it could leach power when it was away from supporting units.

bloody briliant but I see some draw backs; you have to be in a developed country with still intact infrastructure
as to removing the 'anchore' a wide ark whip movement should get it unstuck and just anable you to lower it down, disconect and pull back just the wire

Why not a small camo wind powered generator to recharge the batteries, or a solar panel ?

because a small solar panel can take up to 12 hours just to fully charge a cellphone, let alone charge more needy equimpent efficiently.

Wonder how many power lines there are deep in the rainforest?
Looks useful to a point but can't see it taking off big style.

Obviously... It's just another tool in the toolbox. I can't think of a single system that is used by the U.S. Military to fill a single role.

the thing is if you would ask any cop from a central europe, about an investigation of accidental death of a fish poacher that tried to use power lines instead of car battery, he would have described similar device for hooking up the juice, however this one seems insulated well eanough for a poacher to actually walk away with his catch

I understand that but I think looking at improving batteries (as one of the threads is about) is a better way to go before you start issuing this kind of thing.

Improving batteries harnessing electricity in the way we do today can only go so far.
We'd need newer ways to store it, and that tech won't come from the mil....
