Good article from Guns and Ammo magazine. Check it out.

When you think of countries known for firearms design, Mexico is not one that immediately comes to mind. But at least two guns give that country a real leg up in the cleverness department--an influential pre-World War I semiauto rifle designed by General Manuel Mondragon (which was issued to Mexican troops in 1908, making it the first semiauto rifle ever adopted by any army) and this month's subject, the Obregon pistol.

Mexico has some interesting small arms in the 20th century. The Mendoza Light Machinegun series was very inspired. Simple to operate, light, QC Barrel, reversible firing pin in case the tip broke. We (the US) allegedly were ready to adopt the Mendoza M45 for US Airborne Use for Operation Downfall.

When I first saw this thread's title, I thought it had to be nickel plated, and chambered in .38 Super.

Cool article. I forgot about these.

First of all, there is NO Mexican version of me, okay?

and second of all, those guns looked good. That's how a 1911 is supposed to look. Old school. Not any gold or silver crap on it.
