I found very interesting data of fallen soldiers during First Grozny Siege . Especialy when you look at "nationality". RIP to the fallen. Google translation . http://translate.google.pl/translate?hl=pl&sl=ru&tl=en&u=http%3A%2F%2Fartofwar.ru%2Fp%2Fpiha_b_n%2Ftext_0010.shtml

According to wikipedia there are still about 600.000 ethnic Germans in Russia.

intrinsicProbably a Volga German or from some of the other ethnic German enclaves/communities that existed in Soviet successor states, like the Kazakh-born former Russian Federation Economic Minister Herrman Gräf/Герман Греф. I would rule out the possibility of being a "foreign volunteer".

Wasn't there a major battle around the railway stations in Grozny?

"Maykop" brigade is clear case of not even poor but criminal planning and commanding. For a first it was not division but brigade, initially combined and mixed a days before fight, therefore it was not "harmonious" at all. Soldiers and officers did not know where they are going, they were provided with no any recon data, no sufficient ammo - brigade was unprepared and just throwed to fire like dry wood. there were no secured communications, so when different unit tried to deblock them, Chechens knew about it and destroyed almost entire column. There are a lot of articles on this topic, but one is clear - this was a crime nobody was punished for.

Main thing is that if you want to punish him, you have to punish all of them, all who was in charge then and is in charge now.

No problem I always knew that our high stuff commanders are idiots . And when you are promoted from colonel to general in some magic way you lose your brain.

Just to quickly note:
That list appears to have the names of all of the 131st's losses in both Chechnya campaigns (1995-1996 / 1999-2001). That is to say, it is not simply a list of the dead from the 1995 Grozny battle.

Why are there so many MIA? Are they still missing in action?
