TRAIN and bus passengers are subjected to 35 *** attacks a day, a secret report shows.

Shock figures reveal that in one 12-month period alone there were 12,646 ******ly-motivated assaults on Britain's public transport network.

There were also 92,795 attacks and beatings - the equivalent of 254 a day.

Nearly 65,000 were committed against passengers and 28,000 against staff. In the same period there were 150,000 robberies and thefts and 200,000 acts of vandalism.

The huge crime wave - costing taxpayers £1.5billion a year - was exposed in a report that Labour ministers ordered but then failed to publish. The dossier, covering 2006-07, was finally published yesterday by Lib Dem Transport minister Norman Baker.

I am sure the values are similar in France (at least for the attacks on passengers and staff)

I never see anything like this on the buses in my local area, not even vandalism but taking the tube in London I saw pickpockets, people verbally abusing staff and all sorts.

I never see anything like this happening either...but I'm in America.
And drive a car.

Anecdotal evidence...just say no.

I'm from a rural area and public transportation over here is great but in big cities it can turn out to be a nightmare. Many of the staffers, the drivers and conducters have started to wear knife-proof vests.

I live rurally too and don't really see this. Then you mix or work with people who studied or worked in London, Birmingham, Glasgow et al and you hear the horror stories.

Just another sign of the social decline of elements of Britain. Living where I am is fine and for a young man it's all good, but will the UK be the sort of place I'd want to bring up a young family in in 5, 10, 15, 20 years time? Unfortunately I think this sort of sh1t is only going to get worse.

I'm hoping the new Govt have the balls to take on the problem head-on rather than the old Govt where being crim scum seemed to be rewarded....

Happens all the time down here near London or so ppl would have you think from the stories of their experiences. Whats even worse is all the punks that sit and watch it happen.
