I've had my Ipod for several years now and have used Itunes exclusively for purchasing music. I'm finding that a lot of my choices are limited and I'd like to try something new. I've never tried other sites so I was wondering if any of you had some links I might try. Free music would be great if it's possible.

Rip and transfer... why use iTunes, other than that you have other large sites like walmart and amazon

I had no Idea. So you what, download files to your hardrive or a disc and then use Itunes to upload to your Ipod?

Torrent Files, download them and then sync them over to your ITunes Library.

Just curious, how old is your iPod? Mine is nearly 5 years old. It's outlasted everyone elses that I know. Also I sometimes use this http://www.dvdvideosoft.com/products/dvd/Free-YouTube-to-MP3-Converter.htm to download the audio from YouTube videos. The quality can be pretty crap sometimes but it saves me from having to find the song somewhere else. I'm lazy, you see.

DVDVideoSoft is the best! They have some of the best programs for music obtaining. Other than that, Torrents and .RAR's are the way to go. Search megaupload, rapidshare, mediafile, zshare, etc.

My iPod Touch is only a year and a half old, but my Nano that I keep in the car is over 5 years old, with no problems, by the way. =D

If your Ipod is old enough, I'd recommend using Rockbox. It has a small learning curve, but has nice features and allows you to transfer music from outside of itunes.

As far as torrents, I use http://rutracker.org/forum/index.php

Obviously not english, but I used google translator and kinda guessed around the rest. Past that, music is posted with English titles. Their torrents tend to be Flac/WAV/ALAC (lossless format, which are full quality CD rips) I use a setup like this http://img266.imageshack.us/img266/8801/p1010127wx0.jpg and it just makes more sense to have full quality stuff (though it takes up more space)

do not use the walmart system, if / when they shut down so do the DRM servers which take your music away from you.
I can recommend Amazon's MP3 store, cheap music with no DRM
I can recommend a Zune Pass, cost 14.99 USD a month. Can stream any music you want from them and every month you get to KEEP any 10(No DRM) songs you would like.

Torrent whole albums, pick and choose what you want, delete rest.
Files are already MP3, so they just transfer over to your iPod without needing to convert them.

Easy :D plus when you take whole albums, you might find random songs you've never heard before and end up liking.
