Any ideas how to extract damaged batteries from the cavity?

I don't know if the heat has to do with it but the batteries are stacked inside.

This is just off the top of my head as I don't have one of mine on hand. Depending on the model, if you screw the lamp end right off, then remove the lamp holder, you may be able to drive the batteries out from that end using a thin pin punch or rod - probably best to clamp it gently in a vise and go easy on it.
Could be you have battery that has leaked, and it's furred up between the battery and the housing....anyway hope you get it.

Thank you very much mate.

I have seen some related threads suggesting using coke or vinegar:)

Pull off the "do not remove" cap where the bulb inserts and push the switch and batteries out from that end.

Vinegar isn't a bad idea; you'd want to clean out all the corrosion anyway once the battery is removed, so pouring in some vinegar to clean out the corrosion may release the battery, too. Rinse and let dry thoroughly and you're all set.

One tip to remember when unscrewing the bulb end and taking out all the bits is that there are two contacts made out of thin sheet metal that can be easily lost if you're not careful. Other than that taking it apart is really straight forward.
