I tried to order some Propper-BDU´s.
The two biggest Dealer (Europe) gave me the information, that they are not available at this time or that they are just available in some (no-one-uses...) sizes.
Do you think BDU´s will completely die out and ACU`s will take over?

That's because the ultrasecret B.D.P.'s will be all the rage over the next few months
and in use internationally by many military forces.
Old BDUs will never die, they will just fade away...

Well none of the united states armed forces use BDU as their main camo anymore. The Air Force is still allowing them to be worn but only until this october or next october, cannot remember. But I do not know anyone still buying them for offical wear.

@Fischer: Believe me, they will be available easily for a long time. For example you can still get ERDL without any problems...

They're still in use with the Navy and Coast Guard.

They have BDU's on sale for like 15 bucks, lots of different colors.
I wear them at work, beats the hell out of ruining more slacks/khaki's...the tan is alright, I prefer the coyote brown.

WARNING!!! A "no shlt" story follows--
In the 70s the 82nd Abn issued BDUs. The CG, Tackaberry, was pretty cool about the whole deal. The 18th Abn Corps Cdr, Emerson (Gunfighter 6) was something else......
Word was the Gunfighter didn't like the reference to "Cammies"--sounded to much like "Jammies" ssssoooooo.....
the troops were to refer to them as "invisibles" OR
wait for it
*drum roll*
"BULLET STOPPERS" !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
"invisibles" won by default when someone from Corps was around, otherwise they were just "Cammies".
TRUE STORYp-)
Well, blue wool shell jackets and frock coats eventually did. But BDU's will be around for a good while yet.

I guess the good old BDU won't die. But as more and more countrys use different types of uniforms, it will drift away a little bit.

As for BDUs, I am keeping mine in preparation of the impending nuclear holocaust. They're fallout-proof.

TRUE STORYp-)
Hank "Gunfighter" Emerson was a piece of work. When I was stationed in PSYOPS at Bragg in 1971, he was assigned to Smoke Bomb Hill and PSYOPS were part of his command. We in PSYOPS back then considered ourselves more intellectual than physical compared to the Green Beanies and Jumping Junkies in the 82nd we worked with, so when Emerson initiated mandatory PT before breakfast for everyone, it nearly killed us old timers, who spent evenings swilling cheap booze and beer at the NCO club. I'll never forget those first runs in fatigues and combat boots as guys fell out and puked their guts out. It didn't take long before we were back in shape, though.
Another time, he was sitting in the barber chair on base when I walked in. My hair was pretty long even by the relaxed grooming standards I could get away with as a Spec 6 translator in PSYOPS, and I had a thick, Fu Manchu moustache. I was also wearing new fatigues and hadn't yet put on my name tape or unit patch. I just had the plastic rank insignia pinned to my lapels. I still remember the piercing look I got from him. I thought he was going to bust me on the spot. But he didn't say anything. I guess since I was in the barbershop for a trim, he figured I was going to get it all cut off, and back in 1971, seeing soldiers with long hair and wearing new fatigues without name tags or unit patches didn't raise many eyebrows on Smoke Bomb Hill and no one asked you questions.
Years later, I take pride in having been under his command. Back then, though, I thought he was the devil incarnate:)

TRUE STORYp-) BDUs werent issued until 1981, before that you were Issued ERDL (Highland Pattern) which was similar pattern and the RDF Fatigues were similarly cut but had Bellows in the pockets like the Jungles. In 2AD we were issued 2-3 sets of Camo ERDL for field Ex only. No Nametapes, SSI, Skill badges allowed, Just Rank, then We got BDU's and then OG Jungles were authorized again .
I walked out in 84 with
16 sets of OG Jungles Slant Pocket (8 bucks a set new from MCSS)
3 sets ERDL Lowland Pattern Slant Pocket
2 sets RDF ERDL Highland
3 sets BDU, Temperate elvis collar crap (had to purchase)
4 Sets Permpress OG Pickle Suits (Basic Training Issued)
2 sets Sateen OG Pickle Suits (used for Guard duty and Boards, Heavily Starched)

Don't care if BDU's die but I'm worried about DPM! I'm going to start stocking up when the army starts selling that stuff off, it works great for deer stalking. I tend to go through three pairs of trousers as they just get so much abuse (read: me stupidly putting things in the pockets that tear them).
