SEOUL, Aug. 17 (Yonhap) -- Japan deliberately created the official term for "annexation" before it colonized Korea a century ago in order to conceal its imperialistic intentions, the memoir of a former Japanese official showed Tuesday.

According to a copy of the memoir by Tetsukichi Kurachi, a former secretary at the Foreign Ministry, obtained by the Yonhap News Agency, Japan mulled over several terms to define Japan's takeover of Korea before Kurachi came up with "heigo," or annexation.http://img.yonhapnews.co.kr/Basic/Article/EN/20100817/20100817104156_bodyfile.jpg

I don't think the purpose was to conceal imperialistic intentions as annexation is a form of imperialism in itself. Just a 'nice' way to say it, I suppose.

Incorporate your own community into a town to avoid being annexed.

I thought annexation was a neutral term.

There must be something lost in translation :|

To this day nobody takes the word 'annexation' seriously because at all times and in all places it has been used for imperialism and conquest. The Japanese are well known throughout the world for their conquest of Asia and the word 'annextaion' fools nobody except their own misinformed youth when used in school textbooks. Now China's 'annexation' of Tibet was mere bloody-minded and greedy conquest. The proposed or hoped-for 'annexation' of Taiwan would be no better. The whord is shyt, period.

Why would China annex something they feel its historically thiers in the first place?

Because they'd have to fight their way in, shut down the government, line people up and shoot/imprison them and probably go on a raping and looting spree to do it. The word 'annex' as always been used by conquerors over the ages - and they always think it's their 'right' to do it. It just means 'steal'.
