Wow. 'Flashbacks to discussions of ethnocentricity in my anthropology classes. This kinda mythos and assumption I'd expect from maybe isolated tribes, not urbanized civilians.

Yeah, but again, 'dudes were raised in mud huts and caves (notable - the "death ray" belief after witnessing bomb target laser designation).

Bagdhad's a CITY and ostensibly one of the oldest, earliest centers of civilization in history. They may've built libraries when the English were still painting themselves blue and eating raw meat 'round Stonehenge, but if they don't know what f**kin' sunglasses are TODAY then I'm super-pissed I got a D- on my middle east term paper back in high school.

This is the profound ignorance that results in a populace isolated by extremist Islam and a paranoid ruler.

Add one more chalk mark under "Proud to be an American" for me. We may not get everything right, we may somtimes presume/intercede globally, but more often than not the U.S. genuinely tries to help. Damned if we still ain't the best there is.
