I've heard of using 550 cord to replace the TA-50 clips on an LBE, ie: Quieter, more secure, etc. Is it simply looping cord through the pouch and over the belt, or is there more to it?
Thanks.

I never found it to be quieter...anything making noise needs to be 100mph taped down. ALICE clips replaced by zipstrips, as a backup, yea, did that...the only time I've seen 550 used was as dummy lines so you wouldn't lose your compass pouch running theough the brush, but beyond that, nah...I'd think it would be too loose and jostle too much when running.

You cut off the snap hooks and run the cord through the loop into the Belt eyelets, tie off and melt ends. Always thought it was gay. Some tape over the hooks works better and if pouch security is a concern Zipties are the shiznit to use.

Done the compass thing, only I 550'd it into a BDU pocket. I used to ziptie my buttpack to my lBV, when I used one of those.

Just duct tape all the hooks and metal crap. Saves you putting up with supply types claiming you 'damaged Government property'.

True, some units (10th MTN /JRTC) have SOP's that specifically forbid doing this.

Nah. Our supply dudes are usually more concerned with whether the stuff works, as opposed to how it looks. The only exception is Top when it's time for inspections, ie: "WTF is this sh*t?!?!"

When I did it, you cut the clips ran the 550 cord through the loop in the suspenders and through the holes on your pistol belt, overhand knotted them burned the ends. It made humping a ruck infinitely more comfortable than having the metal clips dig into your back. You also looped a piece of 550 through the old style metal buckles and could run the loop to keep the belt more comfortable. You did this to your own set of LBE, the stuff you drew from CIF was kept in a bag and never used. I still have mine.

Thanks. You know what? just go with a MOLLE FLC, distributes te load much better. I even use one for General Outdoors, camping hunting shooting riding quads etc
FLC (Woodland)
4X 100 rd SAW Pouch (holds 8-12X M14 mags, but can hold almost anything of similar size)
2X Canteen/Utility Pouch w/ 2X Cups, Canteens & 4X Field Dressings
1X Grenade Pouch with Lanyarded Lensatic Compass
1X Woodland Buttpack w malice clips
1X Pistol mag pouch with lanyarded Multi-tool
Hey by the Way NY Guard just started wearing ACU's -nametapes are sage solid color and sewn down, no velcro.

Thought about it. Thing is, the LBE that I'm "modding," is the same LBE that I've been using since '05. It's never failed me, so I'm kinda attached to it lol.
Cool, I guess. We're still in BDU's. The only change has been the addition of the state flag on the right shoulder.

I just googled "paracord mod alicegear", to see what you guys were talking about! I think it was the first result.
Why are you asking? Is Michigan Militia something bad? Just curious.
