You are aware that he won at more battles than Waterloo right? He was effectively the Nelson of the army. He won a series of incredibly important battle. I suggest you check out the column listing his victories(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wellington's_Column)

Meh, I beg to differ. You only put him at 9? Thats off the list which could be a good thing. Lets move him into the top 3..thats more fitting for him if you ask me...
Overrated doesn't mean "you don't like them", but people who had less impact than assumed.

Some theory has Arthur as a Roman Briton who held off the Angles and the Saxons from taking what is now Wales.

That's just a theory - the man is a semi-legendary chief. Since the Arthur legend is billed a singularly English one, it's interesting to note that in the conquests of the area now knopwn as England it was the invaders (Angles, Jutes and Saxons) who won. The idea of an actual England however came almost 500 years later with King Alfred of Wessex, who was real, was an Anglo-Saxon (not a Briton as Arthur is purported to be) and sought to unite all Saxon lands under one rule.

Lady Godiva #3... I'll take his word for it.
And he wanted to put an Australian on the list, so I give him Lewis Hubert Lasseter. He's over-rated because nobody's heard of him but he still has stuff named after him, he was full of sh!t, and he can fill in the numbers before Ronald Reagan, which is all the author wanted. Or Kevin Rudd.

Let me guesse you learned your history from Sharpe ?
But for the heroic determination of the Prince of Orange, who, with a handful of men dared to stand firm at Quatre Bras. I would have taken the English army in flagrante delicto and would have conquered as (the Russians) at Friedland.
- Napoleon to de Montholon on St. Helen.
If you know you're history you would know Wellington and English writers played down the role of any troops except their own. If it wasn't for those "Bloody foreigners" you would have lost battle of waterloo. Not like that battle was really all that important to begin with.
And comparing Wellington to the likes of Nelson ? Oh, please.

And comparing Wellington to the likes of Nelson ? Oh, please.
In 1815, William became crown prince and he took service in the army when Napoleon I of France escaped from Elba. He fought as commander of 1st English Corps at the Battle of Quatre Bras (16 June 1815) and the Battle of Waterloo (18 June 1815), where he was wounded. He showed personal courage and energy, but frequently displayed atrocious military judgment, leading to many heavy casualties. The Duke of Wellington attributed this to his lack of command experience, however, rather than to his being a bad leader.
I didnt play down the efforts of any of our allies, be the German, Dutch, Spanish or Portugese. I know they were hugely important in winning the peninsular war. Neither did ex1cdo. He simply suggested we put William of Orange on the list (childishly) after you (childishly) suggested Wellington. Orange was undeniably brave, but apparantly not that brilliant due to a lack of experience. We may have lost at Waterloo without those "bloody foreigners" but if it wasnt for Britain then most likely, Spain, Portugal and Holland would all have been paying taxes to Napoleon and we would never have had Waterloo in the first place.
How is Wellington not like Nelson? Simply from the viewpoint that they were both excellent leaders and won a series of battles and thus the war at sea/on land.
