At the moment the british are introducing a new railing attachment to the SA80 so that it can attach scope and other attachment when and were needed. But i have not be able to find out much about this new railing system.
Information and photo's would be great.

Im pretty sure they tested for that eventuality before they started sending it to Afghanistan

Since H&K updated the rifles they're actually pretty good. I know we've had some procurement issues in the past, but if it was that abysmally made it would never have been issued when the quality of all UK kit is under the microscope due to casualties. I know my mate in 2 rifles doesnt complain about the rails falling off consistantly during his last tour.

The rails are made in the USA by the same company who supplies the new rail system for US's SOPMOD II M4s...

What website?
That realitymod one?
The one pictured there isn't the one that was selected. It actually looks like the one that Brügger & Thomet (a Swiss company) made for the SA80 contract, but lost to Daniel Defense.

Hah!!! The SA80 L85A1 disagrees with that statement.

Luckily they use the L85A2 now then, I've heard that the new rails work well, there's been plenty of pix in the British Armed Forces (http:/http://www.militaryphotos.net/forums/showthread.php?150728-British-Armed-Forces/) Thread

I have to admit, personally, i think that thing makes the SA85 look so much better.
I found them uglier than sin with the old green grip up front.
I wouldn't mind owning one either ;)

Find me one example of an A1 in use in Afghanistan? Also find me one example of an A1 falling to bits when dropped on the floor? Find me an A2 breaking when dropped on the floor? Idiot...
The A1 jammed a lot. It didnt explode every time you looked at it! Similar to the A1 M16 being nowhere near as reliable as later ones.
Why does the L85 in that vid have an A1 cocking handle?

Probably is an A1. There were still tens of thousands of them in reserve stock a few years ago, and probably still are.
Makes sense to give those A1 reserves to companies developing stuff for the SA80 rather than an A2 that one of our lads might need.

As stated above, it's a Daniel Defense SA80/L85 rail system.

Daniel Defence stated that its an A1 because of import laws it was not practical to import an A2 from the UK for testing in the US, they were lucky enough to purchase an A1 from a local gunstore in which they fitted the rail system.

l85a1 never went to afghanistan.........ever!
when brit troops initially went in on OP FINGAL they had a2s.youll find that rail is probably the most solid thing on the rifle and will probably be the last to break.

Yeah good point.
all SA80A2s actually used to be a1s its not a new rifle its just had some engineering donr to it the only piece on the main body is to have some of the locking splines removed everything else is internalparts...........oh and HK put a little stamp at the back.the rifles now have a surefire flash eliminator.
