Hey guys I just watched GI Jane yesterday and wondered if their "version" of the SERE school was realistic? Whats up with the physical abuse? Is that fake or real? A more "real" BUD/S video is the ones made by Discovery Channel:

The instructors were actually pretty cool

NO!

It was rediculously dramatized and over rated. As you assumed, that level of abuse is far beyond the true SERE school.

And, I do believe this was covered before in a post entitled "GI Jane". Look for it for more info.

lol, you do realize Harry Humpries, a Vietnam SEAL Veteran who served with Richard Marcinko, was the Tech advisor on the film, right? I think you give a movie too much credit to say it degrades our Servicemen. Of course, I'm no SEAL, so I can't speak for them.. but it stands to reason, that it's a fictional story and should be looked at as such.

let me fore warn you (the general and curious public) that anyone that comes on here and boasts attendance of SERE and describes what it was like is most likely a liar or a goofball looking for UCMJ action.

Harry was the advisor? If I recall he was the advisor on BHD/TearsSun too but I gotta admit some of GI Jane was realistic and other parts weren't realistic-- Definitely would not add it to my list of "cool military movies" like BHD, Tears, Proof of Life, Clear Present Danger, ummm??

The level of physical abuse in that movie is pretty much the same in Korea......When you **** up in the marines, you really have to pay big time. The older ones and drill sergeants will not let you go without feeding you some dirt......

Harry Humphries has advised on countless movies and TV shows and is in business to make money, in case you hadn't figured it out. Yes he was a real Navy SEAL, but just because he advises on weapons/tactics etc. doesn't guarantee a good movie.

Advisors give advice. Doesn't mean they actually take said advice.

I met **** Marchinko once. He served with my friend Fred. Nice guy. Really big.

When I speak of movies, I speak mostly of the action sequences, tactics, weapons, authenticity, etc. Although I do say that everything else is important, the movies on my favourites list is entirely based on how real and cool the action list-- Sure I'd like to add "A Few Good Men" to my list but theres no action and coolness to it. Hmm which reminds me--- THE ROCK should be on there too--

ROE = Only good part was the start of the movie modern day--NOT VIETNAM--

Tears = With all the BS(african drama BS) cut out with only the action scenes such as the village attack(with the nasty **** such as the knife kills and physical contact CUT OUT!!!) and tactical withdrawl

BHD = With all the drama/nightstalkers stuff cut out

Clear = Only the MILITARY action scenes

Proof = Only teh MILITARY action scenes

Rock = Only the militayr action sncnwres only

Really? I thought that in Proof of Life, the KR scenes were rather interesting. A little far fetched or unrealistic at times, but rather interesting. Have a good one, and just some thoughts...
yeah i thought the last rescue was pretty good, but the chechen scence was lame and staged.

I was going to say that one but you beat me too it. Honestly I believe that it portrays the Army the best.

The movie is unaccurate enough, removing integral parts of the story, such as cover by the 160th would be rediculas. As far as drama, there is little to none. In the form of a love story that is. Anything soldier related is there to convey that those guys were not machines, and were scared at times.

Of course, books to film are rarely ever done well, but BHD is down at the bottom on the list of remakes, IMO.
