I am currently looking for advice on base layers for a hot/wet weather environment. This is for a trip to Belize. Telling from my experience on Cuba, I'll stick to my Arcteryx Ether shirts, though other than that I would like to benefit from your experience. I don't care if it's issue (as long as I can order it online) or civilian off-the-shelf items. Thanks in advance.

I didn't deny that a Hawaiian shirt is professional.

I have long lived and worked in tropical climates, and I prefer the "quick drying performance poly" tops for day time/base layer wear. They dry quickly, aren't as heavy as a cotton T when wet and provide good sun protection.

There are a variety of companies making shirts that meet those criteria: Patagonia, North Face, REI, Under Armour, etc, etc etc

I am currently wearing the Patagonia Capliene 1 tops on a daily basis:

What's the fire threat? As comfortable as underarmour type shirts are concerned, I wouldn't much fancy having that stuff melt into my skin when exposed to flash.

These guys make base layer t-shirts and briefs that are lightweight, moisture-wicking and flame resistant.

I have not tried them myself.

@ Ought Six: thanks for the link. I will go check them out. I wore Australian made Rammite merino baselayers, Smartwool merino and Potomac baselayers in Afghanistan + I had some issue fr underwear made by Liechtenstein (a small German company). I liked all of them though both Nomex and Merino tend to be very expensive.

@ Waterman: I purchased some Patagonia MARS capilene shirts (both long and short sleeve) as well as briefs/shorts. I figured they might come in handy in the jungle.

fr is not a concern this time so I want to go for extremely lightweight, fast drying moisture wicking. I found that most of my cotton t-shirts were too hot on Cuba + once they got wet it took a while to dry them.

i don't care whether it's "tactical" or just a regular joe civilian hiking gear. Either way I don't fancy bright colors.

Thanks so far.
