Before I open the 3 vodka bottles in the fridge, a little tournament recap of mine:

The championship showed that teamplay outweighs superior individual skills. Anyone can admit that Russia, Canada, Slovakia and the Czech team had more skilled individuals than the teams in Finals. Canada had one bad period against Russia and was done, while Russians themselves played the all so known individualistic effort. Even if you have Ilja Kovaltshuk it doesn't matter if he stays on ice for 3-4 minutes at a time. He's dead at the end of his shift. Russians skated and skated with the puck alone and cried about the referees and about anything possible. The biggest wimp of all was definately Radulov, who had no interest in defense. The 3 medalists played the best team game and were definately coached the best, although I have to give credit to the coaches of Germany and Norway.

Czech team played great hockey if you don't count the semifinal game. Great defense, magnificent guys at offense and a superb goalie. This time it was enough for bronze, I'm happy for them. They also seemed happy after the bronze game.

I sort of feel bad for Slovakia. Great players, poor coaching and method of play. There's a reason Hanlon got the boot from Jokerit Helsinki, now you know why. Slovak fans were great and I have a sympathy for the nation.

About Sweden, they have a bright future ahead. Lots of young players and Mårts is a smart guy. I think he made only one mistake, he sent out the two hot lines too often on ice in the finals, and combined with the demanding forechecking Sweden used all tournament resulted in very tired guys in the 3rd period of the final. These guys will however carry the national team for the next 10 years. What more, before the finals YLE commentator interviewed Pääjärvi-Svensson and Rundblad and to my surprise they were pretty likeable fellows, not the sort of arrogant cvnts like young Swedes often are. This was the first final for every player in the Swedish roster, silver is no shame for them.

It was pretty nice to see that the gap is narrowing between the big 7 and rising hockey countries such as Germany, Norway and to a degree Denmark, who played great a year ago. Sadly the Swiss team seems to be going backwards.

This time it was Finland's turn, who knows what will happen in 2012, is the home ice curse too much again...

Ben Eager's hit on Daniel Sedin was an intent to injure. It should have been a 5 minute penalty. I love the sharks, they are one of my favourite teams for their clean game, but this was not cool.

It's a unwritten rule about trying to kill superstars. However, I think Bieksa should have let up with his fight with Marleau. It's payback I guess.

On one hand, you have an Original Six franchise, in a great overall sports city trying to win their first cup in decades.

On the other, you have Canada's sole remaining hope of winning a cup for the Motherland. I know the Canadian members will lol at that, especially the BC crowd, but that's how it's being portrayed in the US Hockey media.

I'd like to see the Sedins get a cup, they've been great players, not only in the NHL, but internationally as well. Would be cool to see them win the big one.

Ryan Kesler is a Michigan native, and a beast. I would like to see him get a ring.

On the other side.

Tim Thomas is a Michigan native, and as most know, kind of a Cinderella story considering his age, and late rise to prominence. It would be pretty cool to see him win.

The Olympics was a white knuckle ride the whole way with Luongo in net if he could hold on just enough to win in the gold medal game. There's more to the series than goalies, but I'd take Thomas any day of the week over Luongo.
