His feet leaving the ice after the hit isn't illegal, which is what he does.

To say he deserves to be injured is pretty low.

His history has shown that he deliberately goes for the head. For that I think it's karma that he got cheapshotted and injured.

Hemsky is done for the season. For f sake, atleast the Oilers are in contention to set the record for man games lost due to injury.

Yikes.

Keith Ballard accidentally McSorley's his own goalie, Vokoun, trying to break his stick against the net after getting scored on.

Vokoun had to be taken off on a stretcher.

Wow, I was taught at a young age to NOT DO THAT! In Canadian Minor and Junior Hockey

That's so Bush league What the **** was he thinking? Oh yeah he wasn't.
What a stupid American (no offence intended but Ballard's)

Coaches and Teammates do not put up with that kind of bull****.
Go out on your next shift and work your ass off, don't take it out on the posts.
Or in this case Vokoun's head.

Exactly.

1. Dem twigs are expensive, especially these days with composites. Explain to Dad why you busted a $200 stick in a tantrum because you gave up a goal.

2. Useless waste of emotion/energy. Suck it up and make up for it on your next shift.

3. You look like a bitch.

Man... the Riders must have opened the Pandora's box of stupidity yesterday.

OV goes for a knee on knee and ends up screwing himself up. He'll probably be out injured longer than his suspension.

Very nice to see Ovenchicken's history of dirty hits catching up with him. He should get 5 games at least. But we all know you can't suspend Alexander the Great. Colin Campbell's probably in the hospital right now, giving him a foot rub.

I can't believe that Ballard-Vokoun f*ck up. What do you guys think should happen to Ballard? Benched? Suspended? Traded? That locker room will never be the same.

Watching that second video almost made it look like he hit Vokoun intentionally. I know most likely that isn't the case.

As for Ovie, I think an intentional knee-to-knee should be 5-10 games, easy. That kind of reckless play can end someone's career.

If that was against an opposing goaltender, there would be hell to pay. I think they're all laughing about it now, good to hear vokoun's ok.

Ovie better get suspended. He did the same to Gonchar back in last year's playoffs.

Looking at the video of the hit on Gonchar, it looks accidental to me. Ovie is clearly leading with his shoulder and not sticking his leg out to purposefully catch Gonchar's. He throws his upper body into the check first but Gonchar moved laterally. Bad timing by Ovechkin but not dirty.

This most recent one however is intentionally dirty. His leg is out there and there's no question that it will be the only thing making contact. Suspension fully deserved.

The Wings now have nine injured players.

http://www.youtube.com/v/ti9ftn3M4gE

Clean hit.

The Wings are calling it an upper body injury, I'm thinking shoulder or ribs. He drove himself to get an MRI, so that rules out a concussion.

Seriously, having half your starting roster listed as injured...Absurd.

Sounds like a normal day in Oil country.

http://oilers.nhl.com/club/news.htm?id=430126

First they added a page dedicated to the IR. Then they added a counter showing the # of man games lost.

Currently, 196 and guarenteed to be over 300. Imagine three and a half of your starters out for a whole season.

Only six out now, including the starting goaltender (Khabi) and Hemsky. Was ten at one point, if not higher, due to flu, concussions, and other injuries.

Word is they are speaking with the league about it. Safety concerns, especially given all the guys' braces were burnt up in the fire too.

The youngest son of Toronto Maple Leafs GM Brian Burke has died in a car crash.
The team said 21-year-old Brendan Burke was fatally injured in an accident Friday in Wayne County, Indiana.
Police told a Daytona, Ohio television station a black jeep lost control in poor weather and slid into oncoming traffic, hitting another vehicle head on and killing Burke as well as 18-year-old Mark Reedy.
Brendan Burke made headlines in November after he discussed being gay in an ESPN.com story.
Brian Burke, who is also the general manager of the U.S. Olympic team, told ESPN, "I simply could not be more proud of Brendan than I am, and I love him as much as I admire him."
The family has asked for privacy.

So..Russia or Canada for the Gold?

I'm going to give the edge to Canada, since the team was built by my Hockey Idol, Stevie Y. I think he was smart on picking solid Defensive D-Men for the team. they'll need it for Russia's retardedly good offense.

That said, I think the Bronze medal is wide open. Sweden seems most likely, but I think team USA could pull off an upset.

they don't support canadian arctic claims because they want to have to northern ice passage as international waters so it doesn't need to inform or have permission from canada when it hides it's nuke among the islands and straits of the north.. the US interest isn't always aligned with canada's and sometimes it is against canadian interests like getting it's way by brute force in trade disputes and alaska-BC border disputes of 1800-1900's

There was no elbow. If there wasn't an elbow, there's not going to be a suspension. The hit was less blatant than the richards-booth hit.

I really don't like matt cooke, but I'm going to have to argue no suspension based on the two comparisons.

Those type of hits don't do anyone any good. The system simply needs changing to get rid of them.

Similar with how they deal with boarding, same deal a dangerous hit that the other guy can't see coming.

I think that Matt Cook was genuinely remorseful with regards to the hit that took out Marc Savard the problem is the tolerance for those hits to the head. When I was watching hockey as a kid (not too long ago) hits to the head and hits from behind were strict 'No No's and these days they seem more acceptable for some ungodly reason.

There have been a number of really disturbing hits in the last few days whether it is Max Laperrier boarding Scott Nichol, or the cross-check to the head to Chris Niel .... its gotten too dirty lately. This play still pisses me off and makes me angry the play was already made and this was just viciousness for its own sake. I don't really regard the hit on Savard with the same contempt though the hit was cheap. If you see what happens right after Lapierre gets back to the bench hes almost nonchalant about it .... disgraceful.

This cooke-savard thing could have been avoided if the NHL GM's did something right away after Mike richards hit Booth in the exact same style. Instead, they let it go and now we're back looking at it once again.

Clear cut guidelines need to be made. There's a lot of dangerous plays lately that I'm also not a big fan of.

Here's the cross check on neil's head (thank God he didn't go after his neck).

Wow, missed that watching the game. I like what Whitney has shown as an Oiler, except for that.

Not defending, but hopefully he wasn't intending to take his head off like that.

The shot to the ribs wasn't worth mentioning. Mess with the goalie and you're gonna get a bit of wood in return.

vinny_121_ND
03-10-2010, 10:14 PM
Yeah, Neil was interfering with the goalie as the puck was shot. Refs tend to allow goals regardless if the goalie was interfered most of the time. I've never seen a ref call back a goal unless he was blatantly interfered, ... but that's also debatable because I've seen some goalies completely interfered by everyone, and the goal counts.

Johnny_H02
03-10-2010, 10:47 PM
The Neil hit was bad but the hit on Scott Nichol made me embarrassed to be a hockey fan, five game suspension isn't enough for a potentially career ending hit like that.

Wisniewski ragdolls Seabrook

http://ducks.nhl.com/club/recap.htm?id=2009021041&navid=DL|ANA|home

2:22 - ANA Penalty - James Wisniewski, 2 min. charging and 5 min. fighting and CHI Penalty - Duncan Keith, 2 min. holding and 5 min. fighting. Wisniewski drills Seabrook behind the Chicago net (retribution for a hit seconds earlier by Seabrook on Perry), hitting him so hard he immediately turns into a ragdoll (think Apollo Creed in Rocky IV). Wiz is immediately confronted by former teammate Duncan Keith, who he promptly pummels with several rights to the head before taking him down. Wow.

Cape Town - South Africa's under-18 ice hockey team (http://www.saicehockey.org.za/) are reportedly shocked after being caught up in a shootout between police and gunmen belonging to a drug cartel while on tour in Mexico on Friday.

The Cape Times reported on Tuesday that the team had to dive for cover when their team bus landed in the middle of a fierce gun battle while leaving a practice session in Monterrey, Mexico's second-largest city.

The driver encountered a barricade of two abandoned buses blocking the road and moments later, military trucks screamed past. They then heard gunshots and everybody dived for cover. The driver managed to get them away from the scene.

The team – which includes 10 players from the Western Cape – were in Mexico to take part in the 2010 International Ice Hockey Federation U18 World Championship Division III (http://www.iihf.com/channels0910/wm18-iiib/statistics.html) at the Monterrey Ice Complex.

The team's assistant manager, Steve Johnson, told the Cape Times they were "in the middle of what appeared to be a shootout between police and other people. Police were chasing them. It happened a few cars ahead of us. Everybody took cover and we were all a bit shocked".

Despite the incident, the South African team won a bronze in the competition, which ended on Sunday.

According to AP, gang members involved in notorious drug cartels blocked more than 30 roads in the city over a 24-hour period.

Scoff's has used gear up on Hastings. Just watch out cause their new gear is overpriced. Pains me to say as it's very mom n pop-ish, but the prices on new stuff turn me pale. I don't know how good/bad prices their used stuff is. I sometimes get my skates sharpened there.

Hall or Seguin are the targets. Oilers sound like they are favouring Seguin, but both will be great players. So sounds like a win-win.

Souray is all sour grapes. He doesn't fit in the long term picture to start, he's just being a media drama queen on the way out. Which is really unfortunate because Oil fans were huge on him.

I'm the biggest sharks fan, ... the Sharks are cursed. Cheer as much as I want for them, they just keep shooting pucks at a brick wall and the only way to score goals is to shoot it at their own goalie. LOL. It's all fun and games and smiles during the season, it just sucks now in the playoffs.

As of right now, I really dislike the Penguins. No honor whatsover. Cheered for them last year, but this year, not them.

Personally, I think its one big conspiracy to get the penguins back to the stanley cup. Penguins are so dirty. At the end of every play, they have to resort to little scrums, a punch to the face here when the refs aren't looking and a slash here and there and they get away with it. It's sickening. Just drop the gloves and stop acting like a bunch of immature adults. I like to see refs just call penalties left right and center for these scrums. Go Flyers.

Rant over.

So true Vinny they even have Crosby playing like an asshole. The Sens get in **** because they retaliate basically the PENS are a full 2010 team of Darcy Tucker like whoresons.
I still LOL'd when Sidney Crosby got tapped down in behind the net by Sutton a flick of the rest and Crosby's down for the count looking up for a penalty .... hes been taking really obvious dives too. I'm a Nova Scotian and thus a default fan of Sid the Kid but the fake dives and the dirt of his team lies with him as Captain make that fan love difficult.

GO SENS!

..../smh

He is a good hockey player Crosby when he turns on the jets and just plays hockey he can really make the difference for his team and I think in general hes a good thing for hockey. Plays like that and his conduct during this play off series makes it much harder to appreciate those qualities.

If you really watch Crosby when ever he hits anyone its when they aren't looking or when hes free of consequences hes by far not the only player who does this but for the quote en quote best thing since Gretzky I expect better sportsmanship from this guy.

Yeah I agree, I am stoked for these playoffs so far but I do not want it to be Penguins/Detroit again. I am so happy the Flyers won. They deserve it after the kind of season they had as far as injuries go with Gagne, Carter and every friggin goalie they have. If they continue playing the way they did against Jersey, I think they could take the Caps (or the Habs if they pull off the win) to get into the Eastern Conference finals.

It was a very good series and it really came down to a few bounces and special teams. The Preds got the bounce in game 1, the Hawks got it in game 6.
You really can't blame the NHL or Hossa for the series. Preds fans can only blame their power play which was 1 for 27 in the playoffs. Losing Hornqvist for so long was obviously a major factor.

True, My preds seem to get worse(maybe just more worn out) as the series progressed, and the bhawks seemed to get better, case and point, game 5. I about threw my remote in the tv when they scored the tying goal with 13 seconds left. But I must say this was probably the best all around nhl quarterfinals that I have seen. Especially with the great play in the western conference. However, if I was a caps fan I would be seriously disappointed, unless they can take back the series and boost their play in the semis. Though if they do lose, I don't know if you could put it as halak and the habs winning the series or the caps blowing in the series.

What?! Sit arguably your best forward in an elimination game? Against the Red Wings? If he's healthy, he'll play.

From Mlive.com:

GLENDALE, Ariz. -- An update from Tuesday's morning skates at Jobing.com Arena before Game 7 tonight (9 p.m., FSD) between the Detroit Red Wings and Phoenix Coyotes:

Only a couple Coyotes players skated. Phoenix coach Dave Tippett said the status of captain and power forward Shane Doan will be determined at game time.

Doan practiced in full Monday and took some contact. He's been out since early in the second period of Game 3 with an apparent right shoulder or collar bone injury.

"I noticed a big change yesterday, he was able to practice and compete and do some one-on-one stuff,'' Tippett said. "So he's going in the right direction.''

Defenseman Brian Rafalski was the only Red Wings player who didn't skate, but he will play.

Detroit coach Mike Babcock said everyone who played the last game is ready to go and there are no lineup changes.

Forward Patrick Eaves, who missed his last couple shifts Sunday in Game 6, skated and is good to go.

Here's an item that should make the fans of the winning team happy: Game 1 of the next round in San Jose will start Thursday. That's a quick turnaround, to say the least, after a tough seven-game series with a lot of travel.

The HP Pavilion is not available Friday and Saturday because of an Eagles concert each night. Perhaps the Sharks didn't anticipate advancing to the second round. Game 2 is Sunday.

From Mlive.com:

Well they beat the wings 5-1 last game without him, so I wouldn't mess with the good thing they have going with the current lines, and if he starts aching halfway through the game he'll turn into more of a liability then anything, so yes. I would agree with you if he was 80 or even 60%, but with a shoulder injury I would go ahead and sit him, because if I were the coyotes coach, I would rather lose him for a game then for a series. Plus its a home game 7 and they have the major momentum going into this game. Also, I just saw he didn't skate in the warmups, and he isn't dressed out on the bench, so either its not getting any better with the current treatment, which is what some preliminary reports have hinted at, or they want him as healthy as possible if they get to the semis.
