President Barack Obama awarded the medal to Salvatore Giunta Tuesday. That makes the 25-year-old Iowan the first living service member from the Iraq or Afghanistan wars to be so honored. Seven others have received the award posthumously.
Obama Presents MoH to Afghan War Hero
16 November 2010
Associated Press
WASHINGTON – An Army staff sergeant who stepped into the line of fire to help a pair of comrades on the Afghan battlefield has been given a Medal of Honor, the nation's top military award.
Obama called Giunta a solider who is "as humble as he is heroic" and said the ceremony was a "joyous occasion."
The Army says Giunta was a rifle team leader in eastern Afghanistan's Korengal Valley when his squad was split in two after an ambush by insurgents. While under fire, Giunta pulled a fellow soldier to cover and rescued another who was being dragged away by the enemy.

The Narcissist-in-Chief awards the nations highest honor to a truly humble hero. The contrast is quite striking.
Congrats SSgt Guinta! So long as America has men like you, it isn't totally screwed.

Are comments like that really necessary in a situation like this? Get over it.
Congrats to SSgt Guinta.

Well deserved! It's about time our living heroes start receiving the recognition they deserve. SSG Giunta sets a fine example of the humble goodness that still exists in America and will always be it's saving grace.

Since he wasn't able to shed a tear on live TV, as much as he wanted to, I did it for him in front of my monitor. Respect to the SSG, and peace be upon those fallen, and their families left behind.

With all that is said about our youth, good and bad, my faith in humanity is reaffirmed by this young SSgt. Out of an all volunteer Military, we have people like this who show the best way to live.....For others. And, he is only one out our standing Military out of so many who are capable of this type of action.
I would venture that this type of selfless action is done on a daily basis.
Semper Fi to the SSgt.
My sympathies to the injured and KIA
