does anyone have some information on this? specifically how much lighter that new ammunition is going to be?

This new ammunition will have composite cases, with brass bases and polymer walls, which will reduce weight of the complete ammunition, while maintaining compatibility with all 5.56mm NATO weapons.

found it here: http://world.guns.ru/assault/as61-e.htm

i have seen this ammo...im actually going o buy some soon and see how it does...i wanted to tryt the new wolf ammo but thats stell case with polymer coating over it.....the ammo i found is ALL polymer very light...i was concerned about heat and so on but the gentleman told me that this was the stuff the military was testing....ran 10 thousand rounds through a rifle...would do 1000 round bursts and let the rifles sit with rounds in chamber for a while before starting again....no FTEs no jams...and NO cook offs....nice thing about the stuff is it doesnt transfer heat...so a round is ejected and you can hold it in the hand with out burning yourself.....like i said ill buy some soon so ill let you know how it works out

I'm have been in contact with this company for business. I got to tour their facility and view their process. Very impressive. Right now the only ammo they put out is .223, however, they just started making runs of 7.62 NATO and soon will be putting out 50 BMG. I believe they are working on a stronger polymer process so that they can do away with the brass headstamp. Once they master this process they will be able to make the entire casing out of polymer.

it polymer CASED ammunition and I am not impressed with it, I acquired 60 test rounds to shoot through a Bushmaster carbine and encountered 3 split cases, 4 FTFs and 2 loose projectiles.

all and all, IMO there is STILL a lot of way to go before this is a field ready item.
