I'm looking at buying a GBB airsoft pistol. Perferably on the cheaper side, and hopefully of one of these models. hk usp, colt 45, browning high power, sig sauer P22_ series, or berretta m92. Your recommendations are greatly valued.

okay

H&K USPs

KSC makes a USP compact - recommended
KJW makes a USP, P8, tactical, and compact - inexpensive, but lacks quality and details
Tanaka makes a USP - expensive and difficult to find, good details but lacks shooting performance
Maruzen made a USP custom - expensive and difficult to find

Colt .45s

Western Arms makes a lot of Colt .45s and their customs too - All round best quality, but expensive
Tokyo Marui made a custom Colt .45 (not specifically based on a real pistol though) - inexpensive, good quality

Browning Hi Power

Tanaka makes 2 or 3 variations of the Browning, and from what I've heard is quite good. However it is quite expensive

SIG P22* series

Tanaka makes a P220, P226RF (stainless version too). I've heard they're ok and better then the P226 and P228 version before those.

Beretta 92

Western arms makes the best versions to date, expensive though.
Tokyo Marui makes some good affordable versions which I'd recommend for a first pistol, but not as good quality or details as WA

It's not exactly on the list, but the KSC Sig Pro SP2009 HW is a great gun. Don't get the SP2340, it's an older design.

KJW also makes a Baretta M9 (92F) that is fairly inexpensive and performs fairly well. If your price range is really low, it's something to look at. Otherwise, stick to Marui, then KSC, then WA as your budget goes up.

Marui also has a Sig P226 coming out soon.

The Marui Berettas are great if you want to play, but if you are collecting I would go WA. Also I hear complaints about WA accuracy in games...

my WA P14 Two-tone, works GREAT! It's on target around 20-30ft out, so I'm happy with it.

I am looking for a USP Compact from KSC, but had a heart-to-heart talk with a more experienced member over the weekend.

He advised that the USP Compact might have too short a barrel for accuracy over longer ranges. He said that the CZ-75 from the same company has an excellent reputation. For a "plain vanilla" combat-type gun, it is accurate with good range. Short of going for an Infiniti, the CZ-75 might be what I should get, rather than the USP Compact.

there is a strong possiblity that KSC will make a full sized USP. Keep that in mind.

... but in airsoft, that could still mean a year or more before we see it, especially since there hasn't been any official news about yet.

It's important to consider things like range and accuracy when buying a gun, if we're really serious about competitive shooting.

As there are no USP Compacts or CZ-75 available at my club, I had to borrow a KSC Glock 19 and a KJW Beretta 92F to test how the length of the barrel affects accuracy and range.

As far as I can tell, barrel length makes no practical difference. If anything, the KSC Glock 19 seems to shoot straighter further than the KJW Beretta 92F.

(IMPORTANT QUALIFIER! None of the targets were further than 10m/30' and most are 3m/10' distant. "Tests" were done during competitive shoot, and not target shoot.)

Well come to think of it. When I first heard about the USP compact being released last year, I think it was released 1 or 2 months after it was announced, as it was a Christmas release (I think). So who knows? Perhaps the full-sized USP is set for release before the end of this year.

You could be right, but you just never know. Guess it depends on how soon he wants to buy a GBB. If he's playing next week, then even Christmas is too late. If he doesn't mind waiting a couple months, then it might be worth waiting for. Of course, I doubt that a full-size KSC USP will be "on the cheaper side" ;)

I'm sure there are lots of opinions here...

I've used my KSC Glock 18 for over 3 years now, and it has not needed any significant maintenance. I carry it with a standard mag loaded and 3 hicaps in reserve (carried in a BHI UMP mag pouch). This gives me over 150 rounds if my AEG fails.

My gun has a metal slide, hiflow valve, hipower hammer spring, and metal guide rod installed. It's a really great gun.

Based on my own experience, and that of others, I would say this about other brands:

KWC & KJW - cheap but usable.
KSC/KWA - Great guns for all-around use.
Western Arms - Requires care and not as durable, but great performers.
Tanaka - Great revolvers, but kind of fragile for skirmsih use. Pistols are really too tempermental for skirmishing.

Hope this helps. Like I said, I am sure there will be other opinions.
