I saw this thing on History channel last night and it was about some elite German mountain unit, and the main part of their training was trying to smash 150 beer bottles on their head. Now how in the hell will that benifit in a combat situation? I'm not kidding! I'm serious, it's even more idiotic than burying yer weapon for a week and then running over it with a frickin tank! Europeans are wierd (Not counting British, the Brits rooooockkkk!!!!!!!)

Well monks practise punching a wall with a peice of newspaper on it for hours every day.

So maybe it thickens their head, or thy were showing off infront of the camera.

Can you say Bergfuhrer? There is no other premier school for this in the world. The worlds SOF units send them to Mittenwald to the Mecca of this skill.

Never heard of such erm...training exercises. Do you remember the unit's name/number ?
Btw...I wouldn't call the GebJgs "elite"....they're more or less normal infantry (despite all the climbing stuff ;) )....

Sorry I have never heard of this befor. Mountaineer Troops here in Europe (including Germany) learn climbing, shooting, skiing...stuff like this. Bear Bottles may play a role in their life, yeah, i got to admit that. But smashing them on ones hand? Well its not part of the usual training that's for sure. Perhaps some advanced course... p-)

As for weirdness: We here in Germany are perfectly normal. But the farther one travels the stranger the people get rofl ...thats my experience.

And by the way: I have been to Britain for myself. The Brits do not "rock". ;)

This has nothing to do with the Military. Here in Germany we are doing this every Schützenfest.

Vacation - the usual flying tour, do Britain in two weeks - allows you to judge?

I don't think so :slap:

While not wishing to denegrate the Bergfuhrer school, I've got to dispute the above...

Ecole d'Haute Montagne in Chamonix, France
Royal Marines ML training out of Stonehouse in Plymouth

as well as a couple of very credible setups in North America...

Are there any good sites that show what the German Mountain school entails?
