What kind of hand guard is that? Doesn't look like RIS nor RAS from KAC...
Anyone?

Looks like an old Yankee Hill rail forearm. Yankee Hill's website (https://secure.valinet.com/~yankeeh/cgi-bin/web_store/web_store.cgi?page=forearms.html) doesn't list it anymore.

Interesting - never seen anyone mount the carrying handle under the forend before.

With an ACOG scope it helps get the rifle up to level with your eye without you having to hunch over when you rest it on something solid.

I suppose it also gives you access to a backup iron sight even though it wouldn't be zeroed.

why wouldn't it be zeroed if you zero it, remove it and then replace it in the same position?

I figured that by removing it and then placing it back on the rail, its zero would be put slightly off. My mistake.

We need so send him some flip-up sights.

the guy was filmed when shooting too. it looked like he emptied the entire magazine in full auto mode, while aiming through his acog. rather send him a beta c-mag, instead of a flip up sight ;)

I mean the ironsights and the ACOG are almost the same height (the ACOG should be a wee bit higher so that the front post doesn't obstruct the view) - so why should you need to elevate the rifle more with an ACOG than with plain ol' iron sights? :|

I'm going out on a limb here (so correct me if I'm wrong) but maybe what Shrek meant is that the carry handle can be used like a bipod.
You could only do that when using something other than iron sight, because if you're using iron sights, the carry handle is on top of the receiver...
Am I close?

To work in conjuction with the iron sights.

Or the armorer said if you loose the carrying handle you're buying it.

And you can still put your hand through the ironsights and hold it somewhat """normally""".
it's all personal preference... i tend to keep my ironsights infront of my Aimpoint for those instances when it decides to die/run out of batteries, and so that i don't have to go digging through my **** to find them when i have an inspection...

I'm wrong. It's a Surefire M73 (http://www.surefire.com/maxexp/main/co_disp/displ/prrfnbr/1129/sesent/00).

Wow...So he's buying it out of his own pocket or his unit is generous enough to supply that? (Even Surefire site do not have a pic yet...)

The Surefire M73 is probably a government purchase. The Surefire M73 is much cheaper than a comparable KAC RIS, even though it isn't free-floating and that it doesn't match the height of the receiver's rail. Militarymoron has a review (http://www.militarymorons.com/weapons/weapons.1.html#m73). The government has been purchasing quite a few. The DEA and FBI contract with Rock River Arms (http://www.policeandsecuritynews.com/mayjun04/DEA.htm) is for 3,500 LAR-15s per year, for five years. Each of them comes with a Surefire M73.

My question is why is he holding his one hand in an aqward position? Maybe he was caught off guard? Wouldnt it be more comfortable/stable for him to slip his hand threw the bottom carry handle and hold the gun that way?
sorry for my ignorance

maybe he holds it below the carrying handle, because this special type of M4 ris/ras handguards tends to heat up, and he doesnt want to get his hand burned.

I think Deuteriums right, it's as simple as: You lose it, you buy it.

Considering that he is an armor crewman...he probably wasn't issued a rail system for his M4 and probably brought his own.
