Yeah, I've seen this without the caption and it refers to the picture being from the Chechyn(sic) conflict. And correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the 4th an Army Psychological Operations Group.

Well, it's definitely not taliban. That was up on the net far before the end
of 2001 on ****** where they had the full video. At the time, it was said
that the video was shot by chechans blowing up a russian BMP. This makes
a lot more sense considering when it was put out and that the
taliban didn't have good working equipment like that. The chechan rebels
are also well known for video taping their ambushes and sending the tapes
to various places. Here's a link to the video of this. For those who
haven't seen ******.com, be warned, it's a huge collection of extremely
nasty gorey photos and video and most people should stear clear.

You can't click on this link. Copy and paste it into the address bar of your browser and then it'll work.

I remember seeing this in the news (here in Australia) years ago.
It was described as a Chechen ambush on Russians during the war.
I just couldn't remember if they used AT mines or it was command detonated.
From the clip shown, it's hard to believe that those being blown away from the apc were humans.

can someone tell me who invents bull****-fake-stories like that??

btw: it's not a BMP but a BTR60 (http://www.fas.org/man/dod-101/sys/land/row/btr-60.htm) or BTR-70 (http://www.fas.org/man/dod-101/sys/land/row/btr-70.htm)

I'm no expert but... you see the BMT positively jumping off the ground (Pic 6). I don't think it would do this if it was hit by a bomb dropped on him. Could be a mine but I would bet on some kind of set charge.

the story i heard when i first saw the powerpoint verison of this was that it was a mine. Of course that source wouldn't know much more then any of us. But a mine will do alot of damage to an APC like that.

"can someone tell me who invents bull****-fake-stories like that??"

It all falls under propaganda. As Americans, we wanted some kind of revenge for September 11th, so people took videos of other operations and labeled it as stuff we did against the Taliban... as we all know, very little actual footage gets out of operations, so they had to work with what they had.

I saw that pictures time ago in a Chechen website. We were discussing about the war in Chechnya in a Spanish discussion board when somebody posted some links to Chechen websites. For example: http://www.kavkaz.uk.com/eng/video/

I wouldn't say that's an AT mine. The explosion looks to powerful to be jut a mine. I think it's more likely to be a bomb set beside the road.

If that was a bomb from an FA18, there wouldn't be much left of that APC. Definitely an anti-tank mine.

That was one helluva mine to actually spin the BTR in the air because it landed facing the cliff. If you watch the video you can hear small arms fire in the background after the explosion which would certainly corrolate a ambush.

Never heard the audio, but the small arms fire could be the soldiers rounds cooking off from the explosion. ?.

to me it looks like the explosive device went off right under the front of the APC. That would indicate a mine. A soldier detonated device is normally detonated under the midsection of the body, to ensure that the majority of the blast goes into the armor. Of course a soldier could always detonate it early as well.

i dont know a whole lot about AT mines and bombs, but i do know that you can fuze a laser guided bomb several ways. one such way is that it goes off after it has impacted and driven into the ground, then a decelerometer sets it off once it has stopped. so, in theory, an air dropped bomb could have been dropped, driven into the ground, THEN blew up, making it look like a mine.

Lobo

Well, when I said a "bomb" I didn't mean an air dropped bomb. It's sure those pictures weren't taken in Afghanistan but in Chechnya.

Those are the Russians being blown up.

And the captions are so wrong, first off the explosion was set off by a mine. Then the second explosion toward the end is actually caused by a falling body that ends up hitting another mine.
