I would like to meet Dwight D. Eisenhower. I really don't know what I would ask him but I would tell him that he is one of the greatest leaders of all time and say that he was one helluva president.

SFC Randy Shughart

After MSG Gary Gordon was killed and you made the call on the fire support net, what went through your mind?.

Ben Franklin, Thomas Jefferson, Ronald Reagan and John Wayne for starters.....And I would love to have a face to face with Clinton (to make sure that he understood what Papa Shughart said).

A 22 SAS NCO called Splash (from his habit of being in helicopter crashes). What went through your mind when the second Wessex crashed on Fortuna Glacier in South Georgia in 1982.

I met the guy a few years ago on a course, and asked him this over a couple of beers. It was a one word answer begining with F and ending in K...

I'd like to meet the brave men on the flight that crashed into that field in PA. on Sept. 11th. I would like to know the whole story and if they sent one of those mutha-@#%&*^ to their graves before their own ultimate sacrifice. I can't believe I'm still pissed off about this and probably will be always. Forget my divorce and custody issues, this makes me mad.

stalin was allied, not axis (i suppose u mean mussolini)
stalin wud be a special man to meet i suppose; even tho he was a cruel tyrant, he wasnt stupid (unlike hitler)....we heard and read a lot about stalin at history lessons, very interesting person i might say...

i heard it in my own living room, while watching cnn at 9/11 (i happened to be home sick that day)... i can still remember some called, saying 'turn on the tv, tune in at cnn...something big has happened'. so i turned it on, and i saw what happened... a plane had hit the wtc....a few minutes later i saw the 2nd plane flying in to the 2nd tower live...it was a big mess on cnn, and sometime after the pentagon got hit, and between all the contradicting messages i can remember they said once or twice that us fighter jets had been sent to 'intercept' a plane...that plane being the one that went down in PA... it was only said once or twice and suddenly it was all silent untill after some time the news came that the 4th plane had gone down... later on cnn changed their story, i guess that was to 'cooperate' with the us government nice little story of it being crashed by terrorists or passengers...

tally
08-15-2003, 01:00 PM
Budanski is right, as far as anyone knows. The story is that the jets sent to intercept had no ordinance. They where going to be used to ram the airliners. Crazy huh?

There was a recent article maybe in the New York Times that told of the investigation of that crash revieled that the terrorists crashed the plane when the brave passengers tried to get into the cockpit.

of course they aren't gonna publicise that they shot it down; i mean, it wudnt be good PR to say u shot down one of ur own planes... (even though it was the best thing to do in the situation)

i got a feeling the heroification of the ppl onboard that airliner has a huge resemblance with the jessica lynch story

OOOOOOKaaaaaayyy...

Anyway, back on topic: I would like to meet noted author C.S. Lewis, because everytime I read anything he wrote, I become more amazed at his sheer genius and clarity of thought! What would I ask him? Anything at all--I would want to hear his opinion on just about any subject.

Even better would be to be a fly on the wall of the Eagle and Child pub in Oxford, England a few decades ago when C.S. Lewis, J.R.R. Tolkien and a few other of the century's most brilliant minds used to meet for drinks and conversation. I can only imagine what those talks must have been like...

BTW, Tane, you have yet to tell us who you'd like to meet...

IronHeart_26

I would like to meet Eve, and try to talk her out of talking a bite out of that fruit of knowledge of good and evil.

I would also like to spend a few minutes with the wives of some the very brave soldiers who boldy and fearlessly gave their lives so that we can experience the security of knowing that when we wake up in the morning there are thousands of brave men watching over us. Their husbands did not die in vain, they gave their life with honor.

It's a hard thing to put a point on. Ask anyone who started something for fun and because they thought it was right, only to watch it balloon into something of extreme popularity or importance. Most of the time they had no idea how big it could get and are just sitting there enjoying the ride. Did Shugart and Gordon think about how all the kiddies would worship them after seeing a movie that was made about them, as they made the decision to go or not go? Probably not. Same goes for Jesus. He had no idea his lounge act would make it big.

Tane,
Thats some heavy heart your lugging around, peace be with you.
As for hugging and kissing your family, I fully agree. My Father had a rule that before we departed (no matter how angry we were at each-other) we would always say "I love you". I used to think how stupid is my Dad? Whats the big f-ing deal? After one of our blow-out fights I was storming out of the house when my Dad yelled "Hey boy...I love you" I out of reflex responded the same and charged out...Those were the last words we said as he died shortly after. Turns out he was right when he would say " I could die tonight and never have this time again".
Now I am the one explaining this to my wife, and now it is our rule...
God-speed Tane.

wow, alot comes to mind..... i wouldnt say the big JC because ill meet him either way on the way out so that would be a case of patience and belief. as far as idols go id say frank frazetta the best artist ever and i wouldnt ask him anything, id just watch him live life.

but even over the case of my fav artist and inspiration or many other cases like japanese sword legends or military heroes or tolkien the father of fantasy or his great friend cs lewis, id have to say id like to meet my dad and ask him "What the ****!?" just even seeing a picture of him would be great closure. know where u came from and all. itd be nice to have.

Sun Tzu was a native of the Ch'i State in CHINA. I think you might have him mixed up with Musashi, who was Japanese.

Anyways, the people I would love to meet are also Sun Tzu. Rommel, Patton, and Skorzeny.

I'd have a small dinner party, attending would be:

Anthony Bourdain, also doing the cooking.

Sen. John McCain, for war stories.

Jodie Foster, to fill the feminist quota.

Roman Abramovich, bringing along a few bottles of Russkij Standard.

Paddy Ashdown, for british war stories.
