What is MOA? I know it stands for Minute of Angle but I never knew what it was. I've heard about in several books and it has something to do with the scopes. Like on the HDS, "1 MOA in the center with 8 MOA quadrant ticks".

i believe minute of angle has something to do with the accuracy; 1 MOA wud mean that at a 100 meter, the bullet will be within one inch of where u'r aiming; 2 moa, within 2 inches...etc.. i dont know if it's entirely correct, but its all this armchair warrior can tell u ;)

Minute of Angle (as said above) Ex. 1 inch at 100 yards. 2 inches at 200 yards. 3 inches at 300 yards, and so on. 1/4th MOA is a quater inche at 100 yards, or 1/2 inch at 200 yards, and so on. Most scopes use 1/4th MOA I think. This also means that if you are aiming at something 100 yards away on a 1/4th MOA scope, if you move a "click" on the elevation or windage, you will move your cross hairs a quarter of an inch to the right, left, up, or down depeding on what and how you ajusted. This is all used to acount for wind, temperature, and many other things that could all effect your accuracy if you are a sharp shooter. Hope this helps :)

When I need a question answered I believe in going to experts dammit. ;) Besides, it's always better to volunteer someone else. Heh.

Just to clarify - MOA is about yards, not meters. 100 meters is about 28 feet farther than 100 yards, and that might make a difference for a super duper precision shooter. I don't usually pick points like this but I felt like it tonight. No offense taken, I hope.

MoA is correct as represented in yards...

as I posted above - the link offers links to several others sights that may assist people in determining the usage and reasons.
