They look ok, same colors as US woodland and 3-color desert, but in a tighter pattern. IMHO digitized patterns are the wave of the future, so any pattern that doesn't utilize that development is (or will be) lacking in effectiveness.

I don't know so much about digitized patterns, but as far as I know only US is introducing it. Other modern armies still equip their soldiers with traditional camo...maybe digitized patterns are not that IN!?

The desert camo looks like a lighter faded out version of an early version of desert dpm . Dpm pattern but using the colors the the current US desert camo uses.

Canada introduced their digital disruptive pattern (CADPAT) first, followed by the US Marines (MARPAT) ...

I find desert camoed vest goes much better with desert camoed BDU than woodland camoed vest.

It has always been my pet idea that the ultimate camouflage will make use of fibreoptics, so people will literally change colour to suit the environment, like a chameleon.

Fiberoptics probably won't help you a lot with that. Some photo material but which actually reproduces the image on the opposite side of the costume would do :] Of course, it has to be battle tested as well...

"A demonstration of optical camouflage technology at the Tokyo University in Tokyo Wednesday, Feb. 5, 2003. The demonstration conducted by Faculty of Engineering Prof. Susumu Tachi is an early stage of his research that will eventually enable camouflaged objects virtually transparent by wearing an optical device. This photo was taken through a viewfinder that provides with a combined image of moving images taken behind Obana and him wearing a luminous jacket that makes a transparent effect. The technology can be useful for various professions such as surgeons who wish their own fingers and surgical tools won't block the view of affected parts and pilots who wish cockpit floors were transparent for landings."

"Peace" nuts are always complain about military spending but the technology almost always poors over into the civilian market to make life better for all of us.

Except that the research was made by civillians, is primarly for civillians and is sponsored by civillians...
But, yeah, you're right in general.

The Romanians that I've run into in Iraq wear a ripstop uniform in British desert DPM (looks the same material as the CS95 jacket), although slightly yellower in shade.
Not sure if it's as cool as our dessies though...
