There's a debate over here

http://redorchestramod.gameservers.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=4460&st=30&

about whether weapons can cut people in half, or take limbs off. I was just wondering if this is true or not?

Not sure. I guess it certainly depends on the caliber :D

If I got shot by a 20mm vulcan there wouldn't be much left of me...so I guess that would qualify as taking "limbs off".

I imagine if you shot the person enough it would cut them in half of take off limbs. I remember watching a documentary about Desert Storm an American APC i cant remember if it was a bradley or a m113 was hit by friendly fire from an apache. Only 1 crew member was still up an moving after the attack he was recovering the wounded and bodies from the vehicle when a 50 cal round cooked off and removed his arm.

They where able to re attach it though in the interview his right arm was in some giant cast/support contraption.

I suppose the people who could tell you wouldn't really want to talk about it. :|

Yeah, there was an article awhile back about a SF guy who broke down from seeing a dead Iraqi guy after being "cut in half" by American machine gun fire.
So yeah, probally.

I saw the police file with photodocumentation from autopsy of Russian peacekeeper who died in 1994 in former YU (exactly in Croatia). He died of 6 gunshots from AK 47. Two bullets hit his right arm (straigh to the bone) and almost cut it off. His arm was stuck to the body with only thin fibre of meat. The murder (drank Serbian soldier, according the investigation) used armored piercing bullet 7,62x39 (marked black and red). The devastating wounds were incredible, one never know what this kind of ammo may caused. RIP to him and all others who lost their lives down there at Balkan.

The new LeMas Blended Metal ammo can supposedly produce such effects. At the most recent Blackwater shoot the guys were claiming (at least on video) that the ammo would lead to a "zero mission capability within 60 seconds even with an appendige impact."

well anything from .50\12.7 and up should do the trick.
I have been told even 7.62 NATO can cut off limbs at short to point blank range.

WRONG!!! The guy was a support puke. He IS NOT SF. He is also a liar. His was in Iraq for only 36 hours before he cowardly decided he didn't want to be there. The truth is he was having marital problems at home and had asked not to deploy in the first place. He never saw a body. He saw a body bag. Then "man" is nothing but a coward and a liar in his official statements and of his statements to the press.

There was a case of a .50 cal sniper round cutting someone in half, shot on top of a water tower. apparently the top half of him fell off the tower.

As for the limb, i guess it depends on how accurate you are *shrug*

Asked my uncle this one...since he was in town for his 50th High School Anniversary.

The answer is yes.

Exact Quote: "When a bullet enters a human being it can do some amazing things."

Then started mumbling like he does about American defense contractor engineers and how they suck so few of them can work out the math using a pen, paper, and/or a slide rule.

;)

Thanks for the replies - it seems that larger calibre rounds can cut people in half and take limbs off, in certain circumstances
