Egyptian newspaper calls on Arab countries to boycott Israel
By Itim
An Egyptian governmental newspaper on Tuesday called on Arab countries to boycott Israel in order to isolate it in the international arena.
Al-Akhbar newspaper's Editor-in Cheif Galal Dowidar wrote in Tuesday's editorial that there was an opportunity to boycott Israel following the decision made by foreign ministers of the Non-Aligned Movement last week to ban visits by settlers.
"After many years and after the real Israel has been revealed to the world as a Nazi and aggressive country, we may now to say that there is an opportunity to boycott this country and its supporters in order to internationally isolate it," the editorial said. Dowidar called on Arab countries to take action in order to impose a political and economic embargo on Israel.
He added that after the Arabs had agreed to give a chance to the peace Israel wanted, Israel launched actions of killing, evictions and house demolition and took control of territories, backed by the United States.
"This step [of the Non-Aligned Movement] paves the way to move the international community against Israel's policy, especially after the International Court of Justice's ruling. Will we succeed, as Arabs, to take advantage of this international activity? Or will we prove, as we have before, that the failure to take advantage of opportunities will always be our ally?", Dowidar asked at the end of the article.
Al-Akhbar is one of the three Egyptian main governmental daily newspapers, which usually reflects the Egyptian government's opinions.
