Hi,
is it true that Special Forces (Green Berets, Delta´s, Seals) built their own BDU´s? Do you have info´s about these uniform´s because i want to built my own "SF BDU"...
Thanks, Dave

Generally, all you have to do is remove the bottom blouse pockets, and sew them on to your shoulders. That's basically the only difference between their BDUs and normal ones.

some also have a velcro neck closure instead of the button; also, they use velco for name tapes

They "modify" it. Thats why their "modified" version is called "SPECIAL FORCES BDUs".
specwargear.com which specializes in US military gear has some information on this sf bdus:
http://www.specwargear.com/bdu.html
http://www.specwargear.com/specwargear%20sale.html
What I've personally noticed is this:
Pockets on shoulders
Velcro pockets
Velcro name tapes, patches, tabs etc.
Blood type tapes
Reflective tabs
Theres also this article written by the 1st TSG (Tactical Studies Group) - (Airborne) about modifying your BDUs to be lighter/less hot:
http://www.geocities.com/equipmentshop/bdufixes.htm
I too, however have questions:
Where does one get ARCTIC SNOW WHITE goretex jacket/pants?
Where does one get the Experimental URBAN BDUs?

I did'nt know that they modified their BDU's. I saw a Delta Force soldier wearing some strange BDU's with leaf sillhouettes everywhere, sort of like blending a ghillie suit with BDU's. I've seen it for sale in my various hunting magazines.
Hooah! p-)

Heh I woudlnt do that weird stuff... Least I'd do is 1)Wear a Ghillie Suit 2)Camoflauge my helmet:http://www4.aixgaming.com/opend/album03/730576_G?full=1

It does'nt get in the way, nor does it cause any conflicts with gear. I would never wear my ghillie suit if i was in a rifle squad, and not designated as a sniper.
Hooah! :bash: p-)

Changing pockets around is a great idea. But as far as modifying them to be lighter/less hot; no self respecting Spec. Op. Soldier ever wears anything but summer weight BDU's to begin with. No matter where, no matter what the weather.

Yea right, next thing your going to tell me is that no one in SOCOM wears underwear :D
You said it not me. Not always though, it can get damn cold in Washington. But when you can, always rock it Rambo style.

OK, gonna tell the truth here, the whole truth and nothing but the truth!
I Ranger school you have to hand sew the cat eyes on your PC. If you dont do it right, you get smoked and have to do it again.
In SF you have to hand sew a set of modified BDU's before you can do ops with your team. Its a way to see if you can adapt and overcome ect.
I swear, its really the truth!

I agree with Jack, i'm not a big fan of the underwear - BDU bottom either. It just doesn't feel right.
