Hey howdy hey!
I have seen images of this technique being used in ww2 by both the germans and russians. Take extra turrets with guns and mount them on a concrete bunker etc...instant defensive position...just rreaaaallllyyy slow on the move lol.
Jesus blessings!

Well - allow me:
this turret belonged to an israely M48 tank, and is located somewhere in the golan heights (right outside an IDF training area). Nobody knows its origin, but it is sure that it wasnt blown off a tank in any war.
One assumption is that it's an outdated old turret that was supposed to be used as target for tanks.
As for "burried tanks" - it was common in many static line defences, usualy by less developed and poor countries. Even the russians have in the russian-chinese border. Usualy the tanks used for it are realy old, clunky tanks with ruined engine or other major systems - they just stick'em in a big pitt and cover them up.
And there's a lot of them on the syrian side of the israely-syrian border.

What aboutt eh canon's elevation. Although it is on top of a hill, it won't shoot long range!
