A Gurkha solider who beheaded a Taliban gunman and carried his head back to base in a bag has been cleared to resume his duties. The private, from 1st Battalion, Royal Gurkha Rifles, was involved in a fierce firefight with insurgents in the Babaji area of central Helmand Province when the incident took place earlier last July.
'Thankfully he has been returned to normal duties having had a question mark hanging over his future for some time,' a military source told The Sun. The Gurkha faced a court martial and possible jail sentence if he had been found guilty of a war crime.
However, the decision taken was that the soldier was fighting for his life and did not have time to reload his weapon as his victim attacked

There was not going to be any other outcome than he returning to duty consider how ruthless these fukers are [ Taleban ] there is enough evidence online of there brutallity as it is .
And wouldnt have done Cameron/MOD any good if they removed the said soldier from duties .. which would be seen as appeasing to the Scum
You make it sound like he took it with him as a souvenir. He cut the head of post mortem to be used as a way to ID the taliban member. The former would definitely get him in a lot of trouble.

x2. It's not all that surprising that while being shot at he decided lugging around 12 stone of dead Taliban was unnecessary. Glad he's been cleared to return to duty.

Did you even bother to read the article or other posts that explained what happened? Or do you just like to troll?

Is that headline correct? Taliban soldier??? Geez the Daily Mail is really losing it! Come on now. The only soldier in that incident was the loyal and intrepid Gurkha soldier who lopped off the terrorist's head.

Reading the headline i thought he removed the head to be presented to his superiors.. like ilyas kashmiri beheaded an indian officer's head and presented it to musharraf who rewarded him..
but gurkha are more honourable than that..
taliban must be confused...they'll think killing is not enough for gurkhas..

dam, gurkas are straight out of a pulp comic
taliban must be confused...they'll think killing is not enough for gurkhas..That's not necessarily a bad thing as far as I'm concerned. Seeing their own hardcore medieval Saracen fighting mentality, they have little reason to fear our soldiers.

I was going to write something totally different to the present, but I decided against doing so (nothing negative). After a deeply moving and personal encounter with a middle-aged Gurkha some years ago at a previous job (something I will cherish forever), I'm in no position to say anything of the actions of the young lad. Suffice to say, well done to the courts for passing judgement in a favourable manner. These are amongst the most honourable of soldiers.
