it kinda does look like the m249 but the barrel looks wierd maybe because of the tripod? or can they remove the heat shield like they do on the shortened m60's?

is it the lmg stoner? i heard that passed trials well an a short number was bought? i read somewhere the stoner did better in reliability in hostile conditions and that it was in real world testing?

it appears to be a M249 (regular length ) with M5 stock, 100 rd assault pack, and a Eclan scope

no, its not a stoner, it IS a M249 with the collapsable stock and the 100 round bag.

There appears to be something on it though around the barrel that makes it look different.

I though USMC still uses M60, I heard they bought some from the army.

everytime i see a marine in the news hes got the m249. but ive noticed some vehicles (hv's i think) with mounted m-60s and ive seen lots o special forces with the m60-3/4 for hard hitting power.

it is not what was called earlier an M249 para (no shortened barrel or RIS); as posted it is a regular length M249 with M5 stock, 100 round assault pack.

the stock is obviously not full length. it's an M249 SAW, with a retractable stock, regular length barrel, and the upper and lower heat shields have both been removed. It takes all of 10 seconds to take off/put on the heat shields. and yea it's a 100rd pouch. they're much better then the 200 round plastic ones we've been using. the locking mechanism on the plastic cases fall off, so that everytime you jump off a truck, helo, whatever...say goodbye to it

M60s are also used on helo's. Ive seen alot being used on blackhawks.

The USMC transitioned from the M60E3 to the M240G in 1995/96.
