Zuccotti Park protester arrested after threatening to burn down city

A protester was arrested in Zuccotti Park Wednesday after he threatened to set the city on fire — and his rant went viral on YouTube, police said.

Nkrumah Tinsley, 29, was busted after cops saw his tirade at Zuccotti online, where he was recorded on video claiming he would torch the city during Thursday’s mass protest.
“On the 17th [of Nov.\], we’re going to burn New York City to the ****ing ground,” an angry Tinsley told a crowd of demonstrators in the video posted on Tuesday.
“In a few days, you’re going to see what a Molotov coctail can do to Macy’s.”

He was arrested for punching a cop and kicking him while on the ground in October. And released without bail. (Great Job Judge, you schmuck....)

At 32 seconds you can see the teacher David Suker who was arrested last week for Assaulting a Cop on a Scooter, and was also arrested in October for assaulting a cop. Hes a NYC School teacher. He's assaulted Police twice in 30 days and makes 80K a year from NYC. Here's him earlier

Well I, for one, certainly hope the NYPD very conscientiously helps the teach in his expression of free speech, and assembly, and.....
I sure would hate for there to be a misunderstanding between the NYPD and the teach, regarding his previous actions, whereby the NYPD misinterpreted some freedom of speech or assembly activity on the part of the teach and beat the wholly f*ck out of him, just to protect themselves!

yeah....yeah....thats what I hope!

Joe Kemp reports from 1 Police Plaza, where the Daily News has an office:

An announcement was made over the intercom at 1 PP for all Members of Service below the rank of Deputy Inspector reporting for duty (to begin 4 p.m. tours) to report at headquarters lobby in uniform and advised to bring their helmets, jackets and batons.

At least 200 cops worked nearly 24 hours from yesterday (Wed.) into today (Thurs.), either because they came down to Zuccotti after working their regular tours, or because they were held over to cover for cops summoned to work downtown.

Down here in Tampa a Tampa Police repurposed M577 command track used for SWAT operations and post-hurricane rescue work apparently drove past occupy tampa while on its way (back?) to the downtown police HQ, not really a surprise considering it probably was on the interstate at some point which means that the exit it had to take put it right on the street that occupy tampa is in a park off of. It parked at Tampa Police HQ and some protesters followed it and got pics of it that they posted on their facebook. This has resulted in hundreds of comments, mostly rather bland "this is the police state" comments, but some discussing how to disable the vehicle and some comparing the rather goofy looking aluminum armored rubber tracked box passing them to Tienanmen Square. Oh the horror, a police vehicle drove to and parked at the police station.
Obligatory pic of the vehicle. http://i.imgur.com/kJiFC.jpg

I think of fist pumps, on the one hand, and raised arm/fist, on the otherhand, as two different things. The latter emulates a Nazi salute.

The couple of people holding their fists up in the air at 3:40? I certainly don't think they're going for a Nazi salute that's for sure. Raised fist has been a generic gesture of solidarity for thousands of years.

I mean hell, it's even on the JDL logo.

What am I obfuscating? If the image he's referring to is found around 3:44 mark of the video in the OP then yes.

The JDL image is not relevant for a host of reason, but the most obvious reason is that it is not a fist at the end of a straight arm. Another reason is what do I have to do whatsoever with the JDL or Kach?

Now, perhaps I was not sufficeintly precise in my earlier post, so please allow me to add the details now: The image of straight arm with fist raised in the context of this political statement evokes an image I find disturbing because I associate it with events that occured some 70-odd years ago. Obviously the cameraman and editor also found the images, at the minimum, sufficiently interesting, evocative, provactive, or otherwise noteworthy to 1) video and 2) include them in the final cut.

If you disagree, then so be it.

I will reiterate what I have said in other threads on this topic. Such symbolism (as I find it and interpret it) drowns any other message that these OWS people may have.

Understand what I am saying: I dismiss this OWS entirely movement entirely for a host of reasons, not least of which is this sort image (and its symbolism), the national white power symbol (that no one has talked about), endorsements from a whole host if undesirable organizations, and other anti-semitic statements made by OWS people.

It just means "Power To The People" in it's old fashioned (70s) gesture meaning or sometimes, like after a sporting match, it means "Yeah, I won." Or in the case of the Olympics picture with the brothers, both.

I just noticed your avatar - but I only included the JDL (and I actually had to google Kach) because of the '180 degrees from nazi' angle. Here's a different example, it's a very common symbol :)

Yeah I think we'll just have to disagree - to me a raised fist most definitely doesn't carry nazi connotations, and I seriously doubt that's the message the OWS protesters in the video were going for. But I think I understand where you're coming from.

It was a Job well done, cops should celebrate
Not really, after that incident the cops simply left, leaving the encampment intact. The students held their ground, protest continued, tents remained up.

Well lets see, did the Lt. Make the decision to withdraw? or the Captain who was present? or made by higher?

EDIT: They got the arrests they needed

Did they? The encampment remained, which is what they claimed to be dismantling, and the reason the students were blocking them in the first place. If the point was to arrest a few students I guess they succeeded. If the point was to disperse the protest itself or stop people from camping (their announced intention), not really.

La Revolution, it's only fun to watch when its going on in other countries...

no but seriously, whoever expected these protests to be non-violent is a fool.
worst of all, police brutality is only going to exacerbate the situation.
