The Netanyahu government's Ministry of Immigrant Absorption is sponsoring advertisements in at least five American communities that warn Israeli expatriates that they will lose their identities if they don't return home.

Perhaps the adds are in poor taste.

Perhaps there are other ways to convey the message of klita/absorpton.

However, the only form of contempt that I have ever known Israelis to hold to towards American Jews is limited to HS/College kids who ostensibly travel to Israel to work or study, but instead, want to do nothing at all but party.

The idea, communicated in these ads, that America is no place for a proper Jew, and that a Jew who is concerned about the Jewish future should live in Israel, is archaic, and also chutzpadik (if you don't mind me resorting to the vernacular). The message is: Dear American Jews, thank you for lobbying for American defense aid (and what a great show you put on at the AIPAC convention every year!) but, please, stay away from our sons and daughters

Interesting conclusion, not free from controversy though.

My interpretation is that they are saying come home as we will need you in the event **** gets real bad. In other words more boots on the ground.

With the exception of Israel (for obvious reason, such as the Law of Return), I agree, especially in the late 20th Century and 21st Century. Still, there are some low points, but nothing on the scale of the persecution/discrimination prevalent in other countries during modern times.

To limit immigration and/or assimilation I suppose?

To limit immigration and/or assimilation I suppose?

That does not make sense given the non-Jewish population in Israel/Palestine has a higher birthrate.

If anything, Israelis are leaving the country to places such as Silicon Valley.

But that also means Israel feels it needs Israelis in the country, not abroad.

From a totally outside perspective, I think that makes sense IMHO - just as Israel usually encourages non-Israeli Jews to make the aliyah after antisemitic incidents in their country, it's logical that it views Jewish emigration as the other side of the same peril.

You know, this is so true.

Hebrew accented with any other language is for some reason more palatable than American accented Hebrew.

Unfortunately, the less I speak it, the more ****ounced my accent becomes ... :(

I don't know.

It would make more sense to lure back Silicon Valley Israelis with incentives. But there are no "Overseas Israeli" political party/lobby or representation within the cabinet to speak for them.

If anything, having Israelis abroad promotes the country in terms of person-to person contact. Ironically Israeli abroad tend get along really well with the Palestinian communities overseas.

No voice for "yoredim", and as a "yored," I am okay with that. It is part and parcel of my decision not to live in Israel.

From what I've seen Israelis with backgrounds from other ME countries (Morocco, Iran, Iraq) tend to get along with Arabs in California.

True but there are very few places in the world that an American or non native speaker can practice hebrew. I might add that Israeli english speakers are quit annoying when they say "ehmm" before every sentence.

I shared the videos to my friends who are Jewish Americans.
They were immediately offended because the ad's alluded that Americans were less Jewish than Israeli's. They were quick to point out that American Jews are more likley to attend religious services than Israelis.

There's nothing to be offended of.
I saw the videos (which are in Hebrew) who warn of the dangers of assimilation. Nothing in their contant indicates that the fictious mixed marriages are between former Israelis and American Jews and not with non Jewish Americans.
Nethanyau ordered today to stop this stupid campaign.
