My first post here and a good topic to come in on!
Congratulations on your enlistment. I also did Basic at Ft Knox many years ago (way too many years ago)
Two words for you...Agony and Misery. A couple of "friends" you will meet with your feet.
Good luck, I am sure you will do well.

Congrats and good luck.....

And if I can make one suggestions........if you can afford to, get some good investment advice.....invest that entire 7K for the long-term and don't even think about touching it for like 40 years :P

Been six years out now and the last one fell off my heel last week. Now I'm a tender foot again.

Outfreakin standing!!!!! Welcome troop, to the CAV!!!!! You picked a great MOS.

Being a 19D is a very versatile career field. I have been one for 19 years now. Light, wheeled, and heavy. Blues Plt, Div Cav, Regimental, and Inf/Armor Task Forces. Drop me a line here if you want someone to talk to about it.

Scouts Out!!!

I originally wanted to Airborne Ranger (like every other 18 year old around) but once i saw all the cross training i could do with 19D i changed my mind. I get to do all the armor training and still have the chance to do Airborne and Pathfinder training. Just got to wait for the open slots.

I also dont plan on touching my bonus for a long time. With the 7k bonus, and the 3k i plan on getting for selling my car. Ill have 10k sitting in a bank for a long time.

Ohh i forgot to mention how long i enlisted for.
4years 20weeks

Depends on the MOS or job you select.
I got 7000$
where as my friend got 11,000$
He got more because the army is looking for more guys to fill the MOS he picked, and he did the "quick ship" which got him more too.
And from what i understand, only highschool grads can get a bonus. Where as people with a GED cannot

When I enlisted in 1993 there were no bonuses for USMC grunts. When we got boots in 1996 there were.

Damn it.

HumanShield

i missed a quick ship bonus by like 13 days.
I should have just left, and come back in two weeks

Good decision, you won't regret it wether you make a career out of it or just do your initial enlistment.

Humanshield: Congratulations! That's outstanding!! :)
One of my friends just came back from the academy this past week, as well. He is now in the Army, but he signed an 8 year contract. 6 active, 2 reserve, I believe. Like I said, congratulations!! OORAH!! :)
