I came across this photo that I hadn't seen before. The photo is from this website (http://www.vfw.org/magazine/nov02/calamityatdesertone.htm) that gives a brief description of Operation Eagle Claw. Judging from the smiles on their faces I assume the photo was taken before the operation. The person in the back row on the far left looks like Haney to me, and that might be Ishimoto 3rd over from the left in the rear. The only pictures I've seen of him are from the Waco hearings and he is considerably older.

Not very impressed by the planning on that Op, though in the end we'll never know if they might have fluked it or if it might have turned into a super Mogadishu.
Unreliable helos and weather means we will never know.

Had they pulled it off and not been screwed over by technical problems i feel it would have gone down as one of the best hostage rescue missions in histroy.

Wow, this thread is old...

Anyway, here's another great site with lots of photos of the operation. There are also some video clips, but they don't seem to work for me.

Some of the photos:

Blue jeans.

Read Beckwith's or Haney's book, or Mark Bowden's Guests of the Ayatollah; they get into all those details.
